10:30 am Saturday: On the dot, the wake up call from mission control was received. As discussed in the 'living in argentina' section, you cannot open a bank account in argentina unless you have a staying permit (DNI), that in turn is hard to obtain by legal means. However I was able to open a bank account with a large international bank because I was already a client of their offshore branch.
I don't know about Brasil, but here in Argentina, the best interest you can have on CD is something like 3.2 yearly, so it is not a good way of growing your capital nor living off it.

In regards to "Swalk Cwalk" question, it is best asked from Stoly himself. The passion and intensity that he puts in enunciating it makes the words sound this way. In brief, you gently ask the chica if she likes to give French, or better yet, untranslated French. Now, for some strange but very fortunate reason I really do not care one way or the other if the French is covered. However, it is the STYLE and the reaction of the chica in responding to this question that counts. If the chica laughs it off and says yes, or kindly and tactfully says that she uses a condom, the negotiations could go on (notice though, that it is a necessary but not sufficient condition. Things can staill turn bad). If all of the sudden she becomes standoffish or acts annoyed, looks the other way, her tone of voice changes, she raises her voice, or becomes otherwise unfriendly, you should move on. My first trip to BA was way too short, and time has been way out of my control due to business relations. I got the chance to have just one night on my own out of four days. Long time lurker, here's my two bits on my about to be completed trip to BA. As a long time veteran of the Asian mongering scene, especially Thailand, I was happily surprised by what I found here, although I still prefer the Land of Smiles.

I stuck with apartments mostly. Checked out the boliches: Madahos, Hooks, Cattos, Affaire, Newport; most of them seem rather overpriced. Entry charges (except for the freebies a la Jackson), drink charges, and the chicas seem to know what they can charge foreigners, even if one's Spanish is decent. As I didn't have a gal friendly hotel or apartment, just didn't want to add up all the charges in the end, despite seeing some decent looking gals in the boliches.

I ended up spending a lot of time at Santa Fe 1707. Despite some of the bad reviews here, I had no problems there. Saw Brisa, the buff little gal who works at night, many times, as well as Maria, Jimela, and one other gal during the day. Jimela and the other gal (name starts with an M, never saw her after the first time) have great young bods. Good service provided by Maria. The mamasan during the day was friendly and helpful. The gal at night is a different story. I once overstayed by a longshot at night, and she had every right to be upset, but she ended up being very untactful, as described in Jackson's posts on her. Otherwise, a great place. The room upstairs is horrid, the main one downstairs is like a lived in apartment and fine, and the other room downstairs has good aircon, despite not having a bathroom inside. I think a lot of the apartments just depend on where and whom.

I also visited 429 Maipu and 3221 Guermes, also reported on this site. Neither one was better than Santa Fe, both in terms of rooms and chicas. I never saw Jade at Guermes, saw Cecilia, who was very mechanical, and of the 5 women available at Maipu, only one was of any decent looks. Finally, went to 921 Suipacha, and had a good experience with several of the gals (especially Mariana). Again, I think Santa Fe is better in terms of the sheer number of gals, looks, etc.

I went a few times to Cafe New Orleans and Excedra, never took any of the gals, but they seemed promising. Regreted never being in town for weekly meetings, as it would have been nice to go out with the boys. Decided to make the trip to IGUAZU FALLS, probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Took my spanish speaking friend, stayed in a 4 star hotel in Brazil. We spent 4 days 3 nights there, took organized trips on both sides (Argentina & Brazil)
If you do make a trip just a couple of hints,
For an excellent meal visit the casino in Iguazu- Argentina
For shopping hire a remis and take a 30min trip to Parguay, very, very cheap electrical goods, perfumes, sports equipment, etc.
If like myself your spending more than 3 weeks in Argentina I can not recommend a trip up to Iguazu enough. If I can be of any help to anyone planning a trip there pm me.

I´ve been trying to check out some different places, a little more off the beaten track. On Saturday evening I went to the Suipacha apartment next to Ness. There were only three girls there, two blondes and a darker brunette.

The next woman I started seeing I took out TLN at first, but then started taking out short time. They continued charging me 2 drinks for short time. But about a month later, I wanted to go TLN, and the waiter tells me the price for TLN is 3 drinks until 3:00($54p). He INSISTED IT WAS ALWAYS THAT and the other woman must have paid the extra drink the next day. I paid this once or twice, but then my new favorita quit Hook, and she saw only me after that. So I never researched the whole thing further, and took no more women out of Hook. It wasn't until One Tree Hill posted the one drink exit at Hook last month that I realized how I had been ripped off originally. And I was a good customer. I took a woman out of Hook at least 30 times June-September. But I still don't know the TLN price at Hook. No one has ever posted it. I assume it is the 2 drinks I paid originally, but will have to get verification somehow. The women will not tell you the truth either if they can avoid it, for various reasons. BTW, the other day, Jacksons choice had a beer to exit, and they charged him $26p for it. And it appears that the beer/water price has been increased to $14p for men?

I just went around with Affaire-Guido. I stopped by for the first time since it re-opened. The street tout knows me and took me in. They charged $30p entrance for 2 drinks. I complained that I thought that was high but paid it. The bastard ripped me off. I met Exon123 inside and found out the normal entrance is $20, but he hadn't even paid that. I researched in WSG for prices at Affaire. It took forever, but I found the following: 02/18 2dr $20p, $45p salida; 02/18 $25 attempted, but backed off; 02/02 $15 ?dr; 01/26 $25 ?dr; 12/02/03 $30 ?dr, $30p salida. From Exon, I learned the short salida is $30p. I have no idea what the above $45p salida paid for, but the guy was a regular. I have no idea the TLN price, it has never been posted. By the way, I went back the next night and read out the tout, and then tried the friends of Jackson routine. The guy at the door says from now on everyone will have to pay $20p, Jackson group or not, and made me pay. I will be interested to see if he inforces that. They say the $30p is for two drinks imported liquor.

I have a similar situation with Shampoo. I have always paid 2 drinks($50p) to exit TLN, since I was charged that the first night. The one woman I used to take from Shampoo always went TLN, by HER choice. Even if our deal was short, she never returned to the bar. By the way, she once ordered a tequila and they charged me $40p for it, so watch that. So I don't actually know what the short time price is from Shampoo, or if there is one. The bartender said $50p was it, short or TLN. I haven't seen it posted here. BTW, they tell me it is now (2 dr $60p). The one time I took a woman from Closer in July they charged me 2 dr $50p at about 3 AM. I now think this may have been a rip-off.

One BIG advantage of going to these places in groups is that they are more honest. They tend to assume someone in the group knows the prices. My problem is that I am usually alone and that makes me more of a target for a rip-off, like by the guy at Affaire or the waiter at Hook. And we know the bartender at Hook inflates drink prices. You guys who buy exotic drinks(I drink only water) have no idea what you should be charged. And there is no help here in the forum. And these prices add up, especially if one goes to 2 or 3 bars in one night just to look.

Until the last couple of months, I didn't realize the extent to which this variable pricing was being done. The best value of this forum is to prevent rip-offs because we are constantly being lied to and manipulated. Which is why I post about any I hear about. The important information is simply:
1. What did you buy and when/where
2. What did you pay
3. Was it as advertised and/or quality
4. Policy and procedure issues

So please, the 1st time you post about a place on a trip, throw in a line on prices. I like Andres' posts. Very informative. I also promise I will try to ask other guys more in these places, but this isn't easy(reference the banned from Blacks stories).

Info on prices/policies may seem monotonous, but it is certainly no more so than endless descriptions of sex, and helps active mongers more. Your sessions with women are not particularly interesting in detail because they can't even be repeated by you, let alone by me or anyone else.

Here´s a quick rundown of pricing in Hook and Cattos, for drinks only.

Cattos-10 pesos for water.

Hook-12 pesos for water. No cover or anything.

When I frequented Hook last June, the rule was to pay for one drink for every 90 minutes until they closed. So, since I´m a value orientated person, I´d take them out at 3am or later, so I´d only pay one drink. Never paid more.

I´d also emphasize, that it didn´t seem that many girls were being taken while I was there. In the span of 2 hours at Hook and Catto´s on Tuesday night, I only saw 2 salidas. If you really wanted the best bang for the buck, grab the chicas as they leave the club, or arrange to meet them at Le Madeline after work.

I´m a bit bummed that I have less than 2 days left, and still have a lot of places to try.

I'm writing this from home unfortunately. I won't duplicate what others have posted about pricing, but I will give information on what I paid.

Hook, Cattoos, and Ness: all approximately 150p for a short time quoted (except the girl from Ness 100p and she stayed 4 hours), and 250 to 350 for all night at around 1am, and they stayed till a minimum of 8:00am, and one of my favorites from a previous trip stayed 15 hours for the quoted 300p. The pricing was agreed upon in the club, and length of stay was totally dependent on how good a time the girl had and our chemistry in the apartment. I was surprised by one thing at Hook. I was in there 4 times on this trip and the female bartender who has been a real b i t c h to me in the past, was very friendly and super cautious with my change, so maybe word has filtered back to her to clean up her act.

Cutty Sark: I didn't take a girl out of this club this time because my 21 yo blonde from Paraguay was on vacation. There were a few lookers, and one of my friends took a really pretty young brunette, he'll have to post details. I do want to post their new hours. In all, I was only quoted 300p a couple of times, and the girls were immediately willing to move off the price when negotiation began. Just when I get back, I see that United has a sub $600 fare to BA from Phoenix (and probably most of the US). This is one of their weekend specials (up to 2 weeks stay).

For my final night, I went to Nuevo Estilo after leaving the AMA dinner on Tuesday. When I had gone the previous weak with EZE, Adrian and Tim there was some really hot chicas there.

I get to the airport and all the Secure-Wrap people storm me and want to wrap my bags. I don't carry much valuable in my checked bags, so I'm not going to worry about it. I haven't had anything stolen from my bags for 12 years and about 400k miles.

I get to the Copa Ejecutiva line and start to check in. The agent tells me that my connecting flight from Panama City to LAX doesn't exist. They stopped the Wednesday flight 2 months ago. My reward ticket was issued 5 weeks ago. She offers to put me up in Panama City for a night, or to send me out the next day.

My only problem is that I'm supposed to work on Friday, and I'm pretty useless for work after being on planes for 15 hours. I ask about other options. She offers to put me on American business class that night through Miami. They'll take care of a hotel during the day, plus meals for me and Marta.

I ask if there are any problems if there are Copa staff there at night. She says she won't be there, but there will be someone at the counter.

Marta and I go off in the private remis they get, and we go back to BA. Only 2 blocks from my apartment! The Sheraton Libertador. When we get there, they don't know anything about us coming. This is where Marta becomes very useful. She takes over and we get a room within 5 minutes. They also don't know anything about the meals, and she gets that taken care of also.

We go up to the room, get the bags situated, and then go for a buffet lunch on the third floor. The assorted meats and salads are okay, but the meal ordered was pretty sad. It was the worse lomo I had in a restaurant my whole trip.

We go back to the room, (It's after3pm now), and I get a few hours sleep before we have to trek back to EZE. Marta runs back to her place with bags of clothing and other stuff she had in my apt.

We head downstairs and sit down at the cafe to grab our dinner before the remis comes to pick us up. We order, and before the food comes the remis driver comes. While the luggage is being taken care of, we get the food (sandwiches) to go, and head out. Traffic is really horrible, although this remis driver is a little more conservative than the last one.

This saga does continue, but I'll continue it later on. I'm back in the real world and have to work a bit!

Buenos Aires Back to Eden

After a six month hiatus I have returned to BA. My trip was via American Airlines nonstop from DFW. The fare was courtesy of frequent flier miles. The two empty seats next to me made for a good nights sleep as we flew over the western side of the Andes in absolutely perfect weather. The morning breakfast was followed by a journey through a storm that followed us to the airport and remained in BA all day. The steady and often downpour had traffic in a mess. My remis driver was great even though an errant driver almost took his side mirror off.
The private apartment arranged through Mayra (mayrabrill@argentina.com) (that is a new email address as she is now independent and no longer with Argentinago) is beautiful. It is on the fifteenth floor of a very new building on Callao Ave. That translates to a five peso cab ride to Orleans Café or a five peso cab ride to Recoleta Village (including a nice tip). A huge white sofa and easy chair make the living room quite striking. The mirrored wall beside the dining room table appears to double the size of the already spacious room. The queen size bed is firm which I love. The closets are more than adequate. A television in the living room and a second in the bedroom are both connected to the cable system with several English channels to include CNN and BBC.
A trip around the block and 70 pesos later I had three bottles of Chandon champagne, chocolates, paper supplies for the kitchen and bath, bottled water and sodas. I did manage to get fairly soaked on my brief shopping excursion. The hot shower once I got back did feel good.
In my four previous sojourns in BA my residence had always been Art Suites. I would still recommend it to anyone headed this way. However, the private apartment is bigger, cheaper, without tax, and more luxurious than any hotel. This apartment includes daily maid service, 24 hour doorman, fitness facility, and a view of the river from the room. The only draw back is the need to cab it to downtown or Recoleta. From Art Suites it is an easy walk to Recoleta.
Before leaving on this trip I had arranged with Roxana for room service on the afternoon of my arrival. Promptly at three Libia rang from the entrance to the apartment complex. Apparently, all guests have to call the apartment before the doorman will allow entry. She is much better looking in person than the great photos on the net would lead you to believe. Her English is fantastic and her vocabulary would put a few Americans to shame. After some champagne and getting caught up on what has happened since we were last together in October we headed to the bedroom. Oh, she has bought an apartment (paid cash), continues to work at Black´s, and is amazed at the money men spend there. In the bed Libia is a consummate lover with careful oral attention to those parts we mongers love oral attention. She does enjoy DATY and will return the favors in kind. Multiple positions and this old monger was smiling from ear to ear. I paid her the agreed upon 150 pesos plus 50 pesos for traveling in the rain and as a tip. That is a great deal less than she and the other women command at Black´s. Departing she had two requests. Friday night the rain was still coming down, my nap did not end until almost midnight. I considered getting dressed and touring the clubs, but good sense threw me back in bed for a much needed night of rest. The pitter patter of the falling rain put me to sleep in a matter of seconds.
Saturday morning dawned with clear blue skies, warm temperatures and the urge to reacquaint myself with the downtown section. It is nice to walk along wide sidewalks without having to dodge beggars, kids, and other vermin. Once again I am awe struck by the cleanliness of BA, the friendliness of the people, and feeling of being in Europe with all the pluses of being in a Latin country.
I plan to check out the eye candy at Orleans Café this afternoon. However, being a Satruday I seriously doubt if the numbers or quantity will be that significant. I am sure the steak sandwich will be wonderful.

I went to Orleans about 4 times and never really saw anything interesting while I was there. Some of the girls were pushy (Jenny and Mary), and nothing ever seemed to click there.

This is another heads up to all of you.

Last night I was in Cattos about 1:30AM. Suddenly the door opens and about 8 members of the policia PFA walk in. They had two german shepard dogs with them. I presume they were drug sniffers. They were definitely looking for something.

The lights came on immediately. They took the dogs on two tours around the downstairs area, and then upstairs. There was a lot of action at a couple of tables in the back, and one next to the dance floor. They were checking a lot of ID and phoning it in, and there appeared to be some fingerprinting.

They were there a total of about 20 minutes. I couldn't tell if they took anyone with them leaving, since many of them were in plain clothes. It was definitely a business killer, and most of the men in the place left soon after the police around 2:15AM. I guess it killed the urge.

You need to remember that all is not as innocent as it might at times start to seem. Especially for you "ball & chain" types, you need to stay as clean as possible at all times.

Re pricing at NEB and elsewhere: I doubt very seriously there is any set price anywhere at any time in Buenos Aires. It all depends on how much the girl likes you and how good your negotiating skills are. As an example ha ha Stormy but I was paying 150 including the room at NEB, which is actually I believe 34 pesos for an hour. Maybe some of the rooms are more than others, though. I would suggest emailing Mayra about an apartment. Look at the pictures, check the location, and decide what you like. I am paying less than fifty a day, but it includes daily maid service, telephone and cell phone, and fitness center. Great location only five pesos from Orleans and seven blocks from Reocleta. I walked it this morning in less than fifteen minutes. However, the TV in the living room only goes to channel 36...the English news channels are higher. The new TV in the bedroom is huge and gets everything I need plus has choice of English on several of the non news channels. The neighborhood is very classy with lots of shops, restaurants, wine stores etc. Mercy, I sound like an owner or real estate agent. Work with Mayra. OH! Exon Reporting : A Few Words About Pricing : Its been my experience as an experienced Monger that what ever number that is agreed on with the lady is the number that that will be used in subsequent sessions or repeated encounters. As an example suppose a Monger go's into Madaho's picks out a Chica and cuts a deal for say $200 pesos. The session go's well and a repeat, or even a three peat is in order. Well of course the girl will be expecting $200 pesos. A Monger wouldn't go back the next night to the girl and offer $150 pesos. Return to Eden (Argentina) – The weekend

I had a fantastic weekend in BA. The weather was wonderful with blue skies and warm temperatures. The women were hot. Alas, I have nothing new about the clubs or mongering in BA. Return to Eden (Argentina) – Monday

Monday I was pleased to find things were back to normal at Cafe Orleans. My brief visits on Saturday and Sunday found very few ladies populating the environs of the cafe. Today there were 18 to 24 ladies at any given time. This was between three and four thirty.

Having made five trips to BA in the last 13 months it has been interesting to observe the evolving process ongoing at Cafe Orleans. Return to Eden (Argentina) – Tuesday

Tuesday was a beautiful day with blue skies and no wind. Another perfect day in BA. Monday had been sunny but the wind certainly put a nip in the air. They said the same thing at Pearl Harbor back in ´41.

My first stop was a short stay at the internet café to check the news, post and update and review the e-mails. It is a super nice internet café with coffee, beer, other cold, tasty adult beverages and light food. Also, the connection seems faster than others I have used in BA and Rio.

On the walk back to the apartment I remembered I needed to replenish the larder. At the local mini market I also bought two bags of dry cat food. Apartment 6C - 921 Suipacha

Andres posted on this apartment a month ago and said that it had been reviewed well on the local board. After a late dinner with friends it was time to explore, even though it was 2 am. I think it was a little too late on a friday because my usual haunts (yes, even Hook) were busy and No Talent available. So a trip to Madaho was in order.

I have to agree with the Mouse! Madahos has become a place to avoid now that they have raised the chica drink prices to $50-$80 and the girls have decided their pussies are made of platinum (as opposed to platynum!)

This happened to me with a Madahos girl last month. It happened to Capt. Dave and now Nuevo Espanol. It seems there is a pattern emerging. They are asking for higher prices 300 peso or $100 USD. They 're lying about the amount time they'll spend with you then coming with some lame excuse to cut out early. Finally, they are asking to be paid up front.

In my case I thought it was just an isolated case, however with the number of mongers who are reporting the same story, it appears this is organized.

I'm even thinking about mentioning to my amiga on the phone next time (the one who works at Madahos) how a lot of guys are complaining that they are going to give up on the place(and the reasons why).

I agree with Madaho's being past it's glory. My experience there a month ago was not good. I could have just been in Black. I didn't pull even one girl out of there. I'll bet a lot of the problems encountered here have more to do with personal hygene, lack of Spanish fluency and unfamiliarity with the art of negotiating than with any price-fixing conspiracy with the Madaho's trixies.

The last time I was in Madaho's, as a matter of fact, I NEVER discussed price with the girlie I ended up drilling. I just left 220 pesos in her purse when she was ready to leave. Frankly, the going rate is what the chica you want is asking for at the moment and your decision is whether to pay it or not. I have travelled with friends that refused to pay a girl her asking price and then regretted it later and couldn't get the girl to go with them on another night for the previously asked price. If you do not have sufficient blood to use both heads at the same time, alas, you and your money will soon be parted. Exon, what you refer to is not marginal propensity to consume but diminishing marginal returns. Marginal propensity to consume has to do with the decision to save your money or spend it (on anything) and is one reason why the risk free rate of interest is (edit starts here) above zero; in other words, marginal propensity to consume is an element of the time value of money (end edit). [Originally I said, "this is why the risk free rate of interest is normally above the inflation rate"; that is wrong and makes no sense. I was thinking one thing and typing something else = brain cramp. DH]. Most people prefer consumption over investment and thus must be given an incentive to save. Diminishing marginal returns says that the tenth doughnut has less value to you then the ninth doughnut, which had less value than the eighth doughnut, etc. But you were close so I will give you a B minus.

Another economic factor that applies is "cartelization." An example of this would be all Madaho's chicas banding together and agreeing not to go with gringos for less than 300 pesos. But as we know from watching the OPEC oil cartel, most cartels tend to be ineffective due to cheating on the part of the cartel members. So, if all the Madaho's chicas get together and agree to take 300 pesos or nothing and then one agrees to go with El Toro Rojo for 150 because he is suave and debonair and also has the G2 Pocket Rocket in his possession, the cartel will quickly collapse and the other chicas will go for 150 as well.

This is why it is important to all mongers that every monger refrains from paying above-market prices. And, getting back to price elasticity of demand, one of the determining factors is the availability of close substitutes. Demand is more price elastic where many close substitutes exist. Close substitutes for any given chica are quite abundant in Buenos Aires in my experience.

Wow. I haven't read the Buenos Aires section in a long time. I was surprised to read that Madaho's is charging 50-80 pesos per chica drink. Did I read that right? I agree with Otto with what he said in his last few posts. Many times pricing has nothing to do with the actual market. I've met several girls that told me if she doesn't want to leave with a guy she'll inflate the price. Still, it sounds like a lot are getting charged higher.

I also believe that people couldn't honestly expect things to stay so low forever. Look at the various social and economic changes going on in Buenos Aires the past few years. Not only that but tourism has skyrocketed the past two years. I'm not only talking about WSG tourism either. Buenos Aires is a big city that gets a lot of businessmen as well as regular tourists. There are many, many, many more tourists that have no clue about WSG or the current market trend than guys that do. The girls will charge as much as they can until they can't do it anymore. It's as simple as that. As Otto mentioned, there are still plenty of places to go to for cheap sex in BA.

Jak ponders in one of his posts about us boycotting Madaho's. While I do agree that the clientele on any given night might be a few WSG'ers I also believe there are so many more that don't know about WSG and never will. On all my adventures I meet so many more guys that have no clue about any message boards than do. The truth of the matter is that Madaho's will keep charging more and more and so will the girls until the market won't bare it anymore. I don't mind paying more if the quality is high but the last few times I was in Madaho's the quality was not that great and I ended up leaving with a girl I already knew anyway.

Wow, I didn't realize I would create such interest over my Madaho report; but this is why we report, so others know.

A couple of points if I may:

I see no overall inflation in the Chica fees for most of BA. Almost ALL of my companions have been Great Experiences for fair pricing (IMHO) with all the flavors and sides I prefer. It seems that when one or two establishments go awry, the others benefit. I just keep making my rounds and I find all that I desire. For example: you can go to the "Golden Triangle (Hook, Cattos, Ness) and have a beer for 10 - 12p. I've found High Quality multiple hr (2+) and TLN (min 6-8 hr) there mostly for 200p (1 for 250p). Nuevo Estilo still is a great place to economically have a few, enjoy a show and partake in some carnal knowledge. Damn, that's why Dickhead is so smart! You can still find a Gem at Excedra and especially Orleans, just keep poking your head (not that one) in and you'll be very pleasantly surprised. Also, I still have my special friends who never disappoint and always a joy to see.

Pricing is a personal issue. It doesn't really matter to some, very important to others and just part of the game to the rest. The important thing to remember is that sooner or later this Monger Heaven will cease to be so attractive because Argentina will rebound and the Law of Supply and Demand will not be in favor of us mongers. The more we spoil or overpay for their services, the sooner the End to mongering in BA (for most of us) will come, and that my friends will be a "Very, Very" Sad Day for me.

Banned from Blacks – Part Two "THE RETURN" - Mad Max To the Resue!"

Introduction:

My experience about being banned from Blacks on my last trip to Buenos Aires in January 2004.

To sum up Part 1 , I was shown the door at Blacks.

My crime – I engaged in a conversation with a clueless non WSG monger
( a newbie ) in Blacks, opining about the scene in Buenos Aires, really saying nothing more than what you read in this forum.

I suspect afterwards the monger used the knowledge I gave him about the lay of the land to a chica he was trying to lower her price and she informed the management that I was interfering with her business.

I was banned permanently, as any Monger knows Buenos Aires is know for Tango but the most kept secret is that it is the center of memory and mental retention. No one ever forget anything and no one who works at the Boliches ever leaves their job, as jobs are not in plentiful supply in the city.

Anyway, Part 2 – BANNED FROM BLACKS

This is a great story about the mongerhood and in particular an incredible monger, Mad Max., a candidate for the Monger Hall of Fame!

But I’ll get to that later….the story opens the day after my banishment from Blacks

The next day I put in a call to Uncle Otto, poor guy, very depressed. He was leaving for sex prison to serve another one month sentence. The guy is a lifer like all of us but manages to get out each month for a few days.

Finally I relate my experience of the previous evening, the awful truth – Alas I am banned from Blacks. Mind you getting banned from Blacks of course is not the worst thing in the world – there are plenty of other hunting grounds for a profession monger and senior member of the WSG and AMA like myself – but it can put a monkey wrench into your plans when all the mongers want to go there and you can’t get in.

Anyway all three mongers feel that I have been done an injustice and agree to go en masse to Blacks and leave as a group up they won’t let me stay. Cool, eh, Mongers sticking together, the Monger cartel, we all dream of when we rant about the 300 pesos price at Madahos and this could be a real and yet another great benefit of membership in the WSG.

So off we go to Blacks, the four of us, three happy campers and me.. I expect to be turned away at the door but to my utter surprise they let me in with the three others. I felt like I was walking into a pit of vipers. The situation was intense.

Just came back to Europe from a meager 3 nights trip to BA, with just too much to do work-wise and so little time for chasing chicas.

Thousands of Women in Argentina Turn to Selling Sex to Survive Recession

BUENOS AIRES -- Sylvia Ozuna grabbed her Marlboros and was out the door, headed for the corner. It was 9:19 p.m., the first Friday in February, payday for most of her regular customers. The sky was clear. The air was warm. And Sylvia, who left a small town in Paraguay six years ago to find a better life in this gleaming city, was expecting things to go her way this evening.

"Should be a good night," she said, ducking into an all-night greasy spoon known as Charly's Bar to tear off her khakis, revealing a pair of hip-hugging, sheer white tights underneath.

This is her job, on the corner of Pavon and Santiago Del Estero, two one-way streets that go nowhere. In this broken neighborhood of rundown walk-ups, neon-lit hotels and thrift stores, the closest thing to a viable industry are the hundreds of lipsticked prostitutes who pace these streets day and night in cheap leather and fuchsia.

On this corner: the white women from small towns in Argentina, Paraguay and Peru. On another: the black women from the Dominican Republic, Cuba and Haiti. More seem to arrive each day. So many that Sylvia, grudgingly, said she had to lower her prices last year just to stay competitive.

"How much do you charge?" a merchant marine with sleepy eyes and a rumpled face asked Sylvia.

"Thirty pesos," Sylvia answered. She was standing under a street lamp, stroking her waist-long honey-blond hair. (It was about $10.)

"Plus 10 pesos for the hotel."

A nod and they were off for 15 minutes of sex on a lopsided king-sized bed in a dark flophouse where Sylvia said she demanded that at least the sheets be changed before she forked over the cash.

As unprecedented numbers of poor women cross borders and seas to find work, what awaits them on the other side are jobs like this, in a back-breaking low-wage service economy, say economists, sociologists and international relief workers.

Options Limited

"The whole nature of work has changed," said Marceline White, the global trade director for Women's Edge Coalition, a Washington-based organization that addresses trade and gender issues. "Families are relying on women for income more than ever but there are so few options for those women who are entering the workforce. If you can't land a low-paying job in a factory, then the options are pretty much working as a domestic, or prostitution."

No one knows how many prostitutes there are in Argentina, but academics, relief workers, advocates and prostitutes themselves agree that more and more immigrant women end their journey at Pavon and Santiago Del Estero, or a thousand similar street corners.

"There are a lot more women on the streets now than there were 10 years ago," said Cecilia Bordon, 47, an Argentine prostitute who has worked in this neighborhood known as Constitution since the early 1990s.

"To do this you don't even need a uniform," she said. "All you need is a short skirt."

"This is my job," Sylvia said as she sat on a plastic chair at a wobbly table in Charly's Bar, sipping coffee and puffing on her sixth Marlboro of the night. It was 12:44 a.m.

"That's how I have to look at it. I know some girls come here with the intention of being prostitutes. I didn't. But this is the only way I can feed my daughter, send money home to my father," she said.

She wanted to be a doctor. Now 27, a single mother with a slightly crooked smile and a June bug-size mole on her right cheek, Sylvia arrived in Buenos Aires in 1998, following two older sisters who had moved here from a small farming town in Misiones, about 120 miles east of Asuncion, Paraguay's capital.

Her father was a veterinarian but couldn't stretch his pension far enough to take care of Sylvia, a brother and four sisters who remained at home. He looked for another job but found none.

Sylvia decided she would have to get a job, but could not find work in Paraguay, where unemployment in 1998 had climbed to nearly 16 percent. Her older sisters found jobs as maids in Argentina, where the government's policy of pegging the peso to the dollar had attracted tens of thousands of immigrants.

She got on a bus for Buenos Aires, and for a while she made a go of it. She worked nights cleaning offices and attended day classes at the University of Buenos Aires. Tuition was free; she only had to pay for books. As the economy slid into recession, she worked fewer and fewer hours.

When Argentina plunged into a full-fledged financial crisis in 2001 and government officials devalued the country's currency by nearly a third, the nation's unemployment rate jumped to almost a quarter of the workforce. As a maid, Sylvia discovered that her earnings had plummeted to slightly more than $1 an hour.

She and a co-worker were mopping an office floor together one evening when Sylvia shared her concerns about money. Her co-worker told her that she earned extra money working as a prostitute.

"They're always looking for new faces," the co-worker said.

Global Unemployment

Sylvia was joined by 844,797 women who moved to Argentina in the 1990s from other Latin American and Caribbean countries, according to government statistics. Slightly more than 770,000 men migrated here over that period.

The number of unemployed workers worldwide has increased by nearly 35 million since 2000, according to a 2004 study by the International Labor Organization, which said the global jobless rate last year reached 6.2 percent.

Of the nearly 186 million people who were out of work last year, 78 million were women, according to the study. At the same time, employed workers found the value of their wages declining. In Latin America and the Caribbean, real wages for the poorest workers have declined by nearly a third since 1980, according to a 2002 study by the United Nations.

Jorgelina Sosa, the general secretary for the Women Sex Workers of Argentina, said that membership in her union had increased from 60 in 1994 to 1,700 now.

Women who moved here for jobs that paid in dollars -- or the equivalent -- soon found themselves either unemployed or with jobs that paid much less than before. "That's when you really saw this huge increase in the number of prostitutes working in neighborhoods like Constitution," said Sosa, 34, who worked as a prostitute for 15 years. "It was like opening the gates of hell."

Bruno Medina, the night waiter, cleared Sylvia's cup and she got up from the table. She said that her head hurt. It was 12:56 a.m. Her break over, she was headed back to work when another woman passed her in the doorway, sized her up, laughed.

"You look like a hooker," she said to Sylvia as she touched her on the shoulder.

Sylvia laughed. "You would know," she said to the woman, a friend. Sometimes, the two women work together.

Sylvia is all business. She usually arrives at work early and stays late. She is economical with her words and the other prostitutes who know her think of her as a bit aloof. They refer to her playfully as "That Paraguayan."

"I try to keep a low profile," she said. "I don't drink. I don't do drugs. I save."

Offering or soliciting sex for money is a crime in Buenos Aires, but police seldom enforce the law. When they do, according to relief workers, it is selectively -- targeting migrant sex workers.

The Constitution neighborhood is as synonymous with prostitution as it is with the train depot that was built more than 100 years ago to deliver Argentina's wealthy rural landowners and workers to the city.

A highway dissected the neighborhood in the 1970s, demolishing its commercial heart. Stores and warehouses closed. The neighborhood lost a third of its population. Housing prices plummeted and immigrants who began to pour in to the city in the 1990s found rent prices affordable.

"The neighborhood has been mutilated," said Emilion Vareso, 44, an architect and president of the neighborhood association. "There have always been prostitutes here. When I was a kid growing up, I might see 10 prostitutes in a day. Now, I can see that on one corner."

At 1:22 a.m., there are 10 women at the corner of Pavon and Santiago Del Estero: two sitting on a dark apartment stoop a few feet from where Sylvia is leaning against a tree, one on the corner adjacent to Sylvia, two more across the street and four in Charly's Bar.

"Bruno, what do you have to eat back there?" a woman asked as she bounded into the bar and kissed three women sitting at tables.

"All these women, they have a story," said Bruno, 60, a wiry retired factory worker with thinning white hair and eyes that seem never to fully open. He works five nights a week, serving up sausages, dry toast and coffee so black and so hot it could raise the dead, the women joke.

"They have children, or they have husbands who left them," he said.

"They do the best they can with what they have. They just don't have much to work with. Ask any one of them if they'd rather have a real job that paid decent money and they would say yes."

Sylvia walked in. She just had a customer, a married man she usually sees once a week. Most customers are married and it is a running joke among the women how it is a waste of time for wives to even try to keep tabs on their husbands. If they want to cheat, they will cheat. Exhibit A is one regular customer whose wife only allows him to leave the house without her for an hour each day to walk the dog.

When the women see him -- leash in hand -- they call for his favorite girl. They lock the door in the bathroom for 30 minutes and he is on his way.

"Fidelity is a dream," Sylvia said as she stared out the window to the street. A single street lamp gave it a yellowish glow.

As she talked, a 6-year-old girl walked into the bar, wearing flip-flops and sucking an icicle. Without saying a word, she kissed Sylvia wetly on the cheek. Sylvia smiled, said hello and reached into her bra for a few coins to hand the girl.

The girl is the daughter of a cartonero, one of thousands of mostly unemployed factory workers who make a few dollars a day digging through garbage for recyclables to sell, perhaps the most visible symbol of this country's fallen economy.

"She's in here every night," Sylvia said. "Another one of my regulars."

Sylvia said she feels a camaraderie with the cartoneros, poor people like her whose work is foisted upon them as much as it is found. In both their business and hers, there is little dignity. She tells almost no one what she does for a living, not even the nanny from Paraguay who watches her daughter while she works only two blocks away. "I am sure she suspects something, but she doesn't know for sure and she won't ask," Sylvia said.

She feels dirty. She won't so much as touch her daughter without first taking a shower. But showers don't wash everything away. A Catholic, Sylvia won't take sacrament in Buenos Aires; she goes only when she is visiting her family in Paraguay.

During a visit to Misiones 21/2 years ago, her father asked how she managed to send home as much as $150 each month, three times what she usually sent home when she was working as a maid. "He knew," Sylvia said. "But I think he wanted to hear me tell him."

Sylvia says she started to leave the room, but then steadied herself, breathed deeply and blurted it out.

"I sell my body," she told him.

Dead silence followed, for what seemed like 40 days, she said, and to this day she is unsure if the worst heartache she ever endured was telling her father that she was a prostitute or realizing that he accepted it because he knew it was the best she could do.

"Please," she recalled him telling her, "promise me that you will quit the first chance you get."

Jackson, thanks for the article. I agree with you completely that the reporting is biased, as usual.

But what for me is much worse: Prostitution is always presented as bad, and the women as so desperate. But nobody ever points out that it still represents an opportunity that men simply do not have. A man in the situation of Sylvia (like the cartoneros) simply slaves and suffers, with absolutely no choice in the present and little hope for the future. He ends up working in shear misery simply to survive, with no hope of the earning power of Sylvia.

And obviously, women with even a little looks and intelligence make a comparative fortune (like Silvia). Even in the article, note her father's recognition of her earning power, even in this supposedly terrible situation.

So off to Blacks we go, all four of us, three happy campers and me. I fully expect to be turned away at the door but to my utter surprise they let me in with the three others. After all I have been banished...

I make my way through the pearly gates of the Blacks aka the metal detector, and up the stairs to the the inner sanctum of the Gentlemen’s club.

All the babes are lined up, looking to spend some hours/days in the Alvear Hotel with corporate executive on an unlimited expense account, looking for the big score, the once in a blue moon golden gringo.

I look around for my amigos. Mad Max is by my side but the two other mongers drift off and disappear in the bevy, I would have felt better if at least at first we all stayed together but.... I’m sure they would have left with me if I was given the boot, as we all agreed at dinner less than an hour before? Right? At least one would hope they would back me up?

Anyway Mad Max is by my side. About a minute passes and before you can say Nibu three times, the "PR" guy from the night before who asked me to leave, approach and – guess what – he asks me to leave, PRONTO. Apparently the ban is in full force.

I had been let up. alas only to be let down. The trap had been set and I was in it. Caught like a rat in Blacks!!!!!!

I politely explain that I’m sorry for any misunderstanding from the night before and also, told him I was here just for a good time, nothing more, would not say a thing about Blacks, pro or con, nary an opinion on this venerable institution.

In passing I also let him know that I was with three other guys who would leave with me, so maybe it wasn’t such a wise business decision to lose four perfectly good customers, gringos everyone, like you would be down a few hundred dollars for the night., possibly more. But this guy was only a functionary, doing his job, so naturally may situation was hopeless.

Personally I was willing to leave. I mean after all, what hope did I have and if I was banned from Blacks, OK. That’s life., no big deal but Mad Max came to my defense. He’s not called Mad Max for nothings.

Now I respect Sr. Mad Max’s privacy and don’t want to go into detail about what he does for a living but it is a job that could put him in serious conflict with terrorists. And I feel sorry for the terrorists, because this guy is really someone you don’t want to miss with.

Max Max informs the Blacks "PR guy" that if I leave he leaves and he has no intention of leaving (I guess that means I'm staying also). Then he threatens to call the police if they throw him out.

Well I wonder what the Buenos Aires police would do if called by Mad Max, for two reasons.

1, The police were at Blacks the other night checking ID, supposively looking for chicas from Paraguay and Brazil, diligent, doing their job but I suspect the police have some sort of economic relation with Blacks that is not going so well. If Blacks did call the police would they come?

2. And if they they did call the police what chance would two gringos have, not much I think.

So it’s kind of a funny threat, very American - but I don’t think Mad Max meant it seriously. Just a bluff in Mad Max's arsenal of wiley weapons.

Anyway the Blacks "PR" guy tells Mad Max that now HE has to leave. Now I don’t know who started it all but there was some mutual pushing going on, like possibly the start of a full out bar room brawl - you know how things happen in these type of places.

I read that article from another website. I have to admit it was sad reading it. Many guys have the attitude that these girls are making a ton of money and living this glamorous lifestyle. Some might be but the majority, IMHO, are struggling to survive. There are more girls on the streets than there are in higher end clubs. I can absolve my guilt by sticking to the higher end clubs but going to places like Cuba you get a real sense of just how desperate some of these people are.

Yes, we love seeing these hot girls. We aren't hurting anyone. We are actually helping these girls support their family and extended families. The mainstream media ignores all conventional wisdom. I would guess that with the economy not so hot in the US that more girls are getting into the business here in the States too.

Like it or not, prostitution will be around forever. It has been around for hundreds of years and will be around for hundreds more. Even in non conventional terms women prostitute themselves to get ahead in companies all the time. Sleeping with superiors..doing what ever it takes, etc.

I can see Saint's point that a business should be able to decide for itself, whom it wants to serve. But I found myself having little sympathy for Black when reading JamesBond69's story seeing that I too, was unfairly banned. Saint has reported consistently good treatment by Black's management but it feels a lot different when you're the one who gets the short end of the stick. We want to be fair to the clubs but how fair is it when a customer who has given a good amount of business to a club is tossed out because the management doesn't have the decency to hear his side of the story or is so eager to cover up their own shortcomings that they decide to muzzle a customer who had a bad experience with one of their girls by banning him?

However, getting into a shoving match with club personnel probably isn't the best way to seek redress. But I don't think I should judge seeing as I wasn't there at the scene. Ultimately, the best thing that we can do is to report such examples of poor treatment by the clubs. I suspect there are a lot more guys out there who have gotten the short end of the stick from Black but are too embarrassed to write about it. People should be made aware that things can go quite badly at these clubs and while reporting a bad experience won't change the fact the one got screwed, it can go a long way in getting these clubs to change their behavior.

I'm unfamiliar with Black's arrangement with the police but the fact that they have to give payoffs to the police clearly indicates that Black or any other club is semi-legitimate at best. As such, I can imagine the club management wanting to avoid any intervention by the police. Given the circumstances, that can work for or against us, mongers.

Trixie Price Fixing

I'm back in Sex Prison after four days and three nights in Buenos Aires. :(

You must be careful going to any strange place alone. When you go thru the door, stop. Do not let anyone hustle you anywhere. When your eyes adjust, survey the scene. If there is too much pressure, leave immediately. NEVER sit down with a woman for any reason unless you have surveyed the place at least 10 minutes. If possible, talk only with men until you understand the situation. If you don't speak decent spanish, you really shouldn't go into unknown places at all, especially alone.

When I saw the comments about the police and Black, I was amused. Imagine the ill will that these rip-off places operate against. Black Update

Last Tuesday night I paid a visit to my favorite BsAs institution and I must say that it is as good as ever. Big selection of do-able chicks, 35 pesos for my Tanqueray and Tonic (limited myself to one, as I am becoming a lightweight in my old age), and a passable floor show. A few days have elapsed since my week-end in B.A. and it seems the right time to lay down some thoughts and comments.

Four experiences to recount.

I think this hobby is all about getting a “BUZZ” and all sorts of variables go into reaching a greater or lesser intensity of satisfaction. In this particular case the sensuality, the warmth and the “skills” were not the five star I had expected. Believe me, I desperately wanted them to be and searched and looked for a meeting point between the two different planets we were on, but I think I was on my own there, and it didn’t work, too mechanical. This is not the local gym workout, it is about sex and that means some kind of connection.

I think I am in a minority on this one because most reports of her have been positive, but somehow I also hope this Forum could be about airing differing views. Exon123 is correct, and what works for one person, may not work for another. Internet girls have been fun, but the absolute best, in terms of GFE, both in Argentina and Brazil, have been the ones that you can meet and establish a rapport with. This might be over dinner or coffee at a cafe, or at a club as well, or it might take off over a period of a few days, and it might include girls who post on the internet as well.

Money is usually never discussed in these situations unless she brings it up, and then you either agree or disagree. If she is on the high side, then you make sure that she is all over you in the club or cafe, and that you will get what you expect for her stated amount. The end result be up to you.

It's not like you can always expect predictable or logic behavoir from the working girls in BA (or anywhere else), keep this in mind all the time.
Each girl has his own personality, quirks, troubles and so on. You can try an approach and be rewarded once, then blown countless times. For example, there are girls that are not really interested in seeing clients outside of the boliche, or going places or whatever else. They may have given you the number on the first meeting but more like a perfunctory courtesy than enything else - you find out that too many complications turns up at the time you try to arrange a date outside the boliche.

Some easy explaination can be imagined, like in the case of the boliche girl that asked for money to come to dinner, may be she had a negative experience, having been invited in the past by someone that at the end didn't wanted to spend more time with her. In summary on her side she had to leave home earlier, sat a table with strangers, enjoy no conversation for lack of a common language and then rush to work as everyday. So she asked for some money as a kind of insurance. But, once again, one can never know for sure, may be she was just one of these going for cash all the time so you wisely cut her at the beginning.

For sure treating girls well and be courteous pays back, but not always. I recently exchanged few insults in a boliche with a girl that I never molested in any way (actually I never molest anybody if not a jokeful way). At the same time she was super-sweet to another guy. After the encouragement from my first F.R. I feel ready for the Second Course.

My best experience of the trip (and actually my best since a long time) came about not through recommendation by the Forum but through a private suggestion by Roxana. After she listened to me over Tea on my first morning after arriving, and once she felt she understood my needs, she suggested trying Cafè Orleans.

Now, for those who never been, allow me to set the scene and the surroundings. We are in a historic and majestic old city which could be anywhere in Europe. So I feel I am on familiar turf as I wonder the streets on a relaxing Saturday afternoon doing a bit of shopping.

Around 5 o’clock the urge for a sit-down and drink is felt, so I amble down to this Cafè Orleans, push the door open and walk right into: The Twilight Zone.
