Hey Peter,
I"m back in the states. Only comment I have is if you can teach your staff how to make a good old Taco Bell style quesedilla. The one I got at the restaurant I was very disappointed with back in December. Rest of the food was good, but I was craving shredded chedder cheese with jalepeno sauce in a Mexican style tortilla, grilled.
Glad to see the superbowl party was a success. I miss BA.

Where do they get these photographers? In the photo, the Alamo looks like a castle on a hill (just as my little apartment looked spacious in the photo I
looked at it back in the U.S. In reality El Alamo is a nice little place with about 15 tables and a bar.
Something I liked was that they sell about 20 different wines by the glass. The Alamos chardonnay (Alamos wine in the Alamo) was superb on a sunny day after walking. However, the Alamos cabernet sauvignon was not up to the usual Argentinian standards. Surprise!
The lomitos (3 little steaks) had a wonderful beefy flavor, and the mashed potatoes and salad were fine. With the wines, too much food, cafe, and a bottle of Guinness for dessert, I ended up paying about 50 pesos + propina. The place is popular for lunch with the Argentinians, and I saw about 3 fellow gringos at the bar, where they looked quite comfortable. There are several computers behind the bar that you can use, and I read an English-language newspaper that was sitting around.
Oddly, the waitress and the bartender appeared to be engaged in some kind of feud. My advice to management is to let the gringo speak doggerel Spanish if he wants to (the waitress always responded in English as if Espanol was not to be permitted)
I will not have a chance to check out the $300=900 peso hookers on the upstairs floor on this trip. Hah! Big loss. But I do recommend the Alamo for a nice little lunch after the 100 peso love fest that you can have at 1707 Santa Fe, which is pleasant 3 block walk from the Alamo.
Hi Riverm,
It may not have been open during the lunch hours, but they do have another full bar and a larger dining room on the 2nd floor.
Thanks,
Jackson
Hi Jackson,
Yes, they said the upstairs area opens at about six. Just for the record, I tried the same meal at a different place in Palermo the next day, and the food had been better at the Alamo. Also, the Alamo price was competitive, with that great chardonnay at a reasonable price.
As I post this message, I sit at El Alamo next to a fellow monger.
This is my second trip to BA which provided much more insight to the complex and mysterious ba chica scene.
First, I have expereinced the diverse chica options through clubs (cover and no cover establishments) independent escorts, apartments, etc.
IMO the best "bang for the buck" is the apartments. As I discovered, many of the hot chicas seen on the web sites work the apartments with normal pricing of around 100 - 120 pesos per hour with good to excellent gfe.
While I did not go to many of the apts listed on this web site, I found 1707 Santa Fe and 1242 Arenales, apt 5f to be incredible values. My sugestion is to go around 11:00am - 12:00pm as mongers get first crack at these chicas.
The Santa Fe apt has good consistency. The Arenales apt offers the spectacular german paraguay blonde Pricilla, whom offers a very good gfe (experienced first hand) at 120 pesos per hour. Another hot blonde named Antonella is also available, but heard does not quite offer the same type gfe as Pricilla. I also sampled a decent Spanish chica who offered a better gfe than Pricilla. Ultimately, you must be the judge.
Back to El Alamo, if you are a ba newbie with no Spanish skills, I strongly suggest visiting this bar and consulting the owner along with the always helpful ba mongers on all your mongering questions. Their insights are truly amazing, thus saving mucho time and money. The atmosphere, food and drinks are also excellent values.
ENJOY
.......1242 Arenales, apt 5f........ Hi,
For 1242 Arenales, is it Apt 5F or 6F?

Oddly, the waitress and the bartender appeared to be engaged in some kind of feud. My advice to management is to let the gringo speak doggerel Spanish if he wants to (the waitress always responded in English as if Espanol was not to be permitted)Thats a good point and I'm surprised that tourist / expat oriented businesses don't pick up on it. Some foreigners want to speak / learn the local language. When you speak the local language pretty well, it can be somewhat of an insult when employees refuse to speak anything but English to you. This didn't happen to me at El Alamo, but it has happened at some other places.
Ok Mongers here's the Idea and Your Imput is both Welcome and Needed.
A number of us are interested in Spicing up our Sex Live's therefore Mongering Mondays has been invented. If sucessful this would be an on going weekly event held at the El Alamo.
The Idea would be for this coming Monday each of us to invite an Internet Girl to the El Alamo Restaurant for a Mixer upstairs at 6:00pm for about an hour. Peter has aggreed to host an open Bar for all of us to get it started.
The program would be that each Chica invited by any attending Monger is open season for any other Monger. In essance, say I invite a Chica I've been lurking at over the internet, but never met. She shows up and the Chemistry isn't all that good but possibly I have have an eye for Thomaso276's invite and or Papa Benito takes a shine to my girl and so on down the line.
I for one have several girls I've been lurking over on the Internet. But have never taken the time to meet, simply because I wasn't going to gamble the time or the Orgasam on a stranger. To this day Exon has never done an Internet Chica. The reason, unless the Chemistry isn't just right their not worth Fucking. And frankly if you do make contact with a girl, (Solo) your pretty much oblagated to Fuck her since you invited her to your Hotel, apartment or showed up at her door step.
Expounding on the Idea of "Monger Mondays" all of us that attend would have the oppertunity to meet some completely new Chica's we've never seen before. Not the same old talant we see almost every night at the Clubs around town and such places as Excedra & Cafe Orleans.
OK whats in it for the Chica's. I suggest each Monger gives the Chica of his invite or choice some show up money. Say $50 peso's with the promise that she is going to meet some potentual new clients to ply her services with, I. E. American Mongers with peso's.
For those of us that don't speak Spanish, (Myself Included) we contact Roxana to do your dirty work. Having Roxana explain to the Chica's just exactly what the rules are, its open season for everyone, Chica's included. She doesn't have to Fuck the guy that invited her, (well in case he wants too) but she is free to ply her trade to anyone at the party.
At the very least each attending Monger will have the oppertunity to meet new talent never seen before and very possibly add some new pussy to his stable.
To make this work were going to need at least 8 to 10 Mongers that, "Bring Something to the Party", litterly.
So lets figure on Monday night at 6:00 pm at the El Alamo and RSVP on the board and Please feel free to add your comments to this post. If the idea takes hold everyone's going to have some fun.

I have proposed to Peter a different twist.
The idea behind the weekly meetings is for the girls to expand their horizons (clients) and the guys to meet new girls. I could not (my situation is different) bring a girl along for others to interview. In addition I am not sure all the guys would bring anyone, thereby reducing opportunities. Sort of like the lurkers on the board.
Everyday on Platynum there are NEW girls advertising their availablity. See: http://www.escorts.com.ar/NovedadesArchivadas/NovedadesArchivadas.htm
I would imagine many of these girls do not have a steady client base, as opposed to the more experienced girls. Or the two very overpriced chicas from last week.
I would recommend that the owner of Platynum encourage the weekly "new girls" who have signed up to stop by the Alamo on a specific evening to meet potential clients. She could sell it as a benefit for her webpage for the new girls. Chances are they can get a date right from the get go. There are always one or two new escorts per day on the site. No cost to us and a great opportunity for the chicas.
I have no idea how this plays out with the "third party, hands off policy" dictated by law regarding P4P.
He ought to coordinate this with the owner of Platynum. I forget her name now but she has a reputation as a very good and honest businesswoman.
He ought to coordinate this with the owner of Platynum. I forget her name now but she has a reputation as a very good and honest businesswoman.I never met her but from what I remember Adriana is the webmistress for Platynum. Or was it www.escorts-argentina.com? I read she even attends some of the AP gathering herself.
That's it, Sportsman. She actually runs both websites, as well as one or two others. And you are right, she has attended AP events, I met her a year ago at a dinner and found her to be a gracious and friendly woman. (And to cut off those inevitable PMs, no, she is not on the program!;))
On Friday night we had a big group dinner at El Alamo, celebrating Roxana's 29th birthday.;)
The food was good, the wine was great, and the company was even better. It was great to see so many new faces that we had previously just known by handle.
We had an upstairs room reserved for our party, and hopefully all the loud noises and other "activities" didn't scare off too many of the regular clientele.
I want to extend a special thanks to Peter, owner of El Alamo, who was our gracious maitre'd and who runs the best English-speaking watering hole in La Reina del Plate.
OK Peter I took your advise and tried one of the new sister acts. I think her name is Noelia. The 18 year old. And you were totally correct. She's a great tight little package from top to bottom. But she is very shy though. But that didn't seem to be much of a problem once she hit the sheets. With her limited English and my very limited Spanish you would have thought there would have been more problem. But something just comes natural I guess. And this little cutie is all natural. As I said a perfect tight little body. And it didn't take me to long to pop off a few rounds with her. If you like them young and tight I highly recommend her.
I will say that Mel is a very good chose too. She's a little older (21) and a little let shy. And she also has a knock out body. And I would rate her extremely high as well. And she has more English that can go a long way sometimes.
Both girls are very good young ladies. And you will not be disappointed with ether of them.
For running the Yankees- Red Sox game last night without any interruption. Although my team lost, I had a great time with the kids from Boston. You were understaffed last night, still managed to make everybody happy. Thank you!

A general cautionary note to all mongers who use the computers at El Alamo to access this site. On number of occassions, I found users are still logged in. You are opening yourself up for abuse. Others can post on your behalf. And most importantly, anybody can read your private mails and again, deliberately can send inappropriate mails to others. Make sure you "log-out" from the server, after you are done.

While the drinks where good as usual and you DO have a beautiful bartender upstairs, you should do somethoing to match the tenderness of your beef with the rest. I had an ojo de bife, and normally a ribeye should be reasonable tender and juicy. The piece I got leaves a lot of room for improvement.
El Alemán
I enjoyed another American styled breakfast at El Alamo this morning with 3 of our fellow mongers; Punter127, Papabenito and Sante Fe. It was super with very good Cappuchino Italiano! I recommend the breakfast. This is a good fellow mongering hangout!
Had a good, tasty Steak, Egg and Papa Fritas breakfast this morning with my wingman. Food was prepared quickly and the steak was tender. No A-1 on site tho! LOL
I have been there thinking I would hit the ATM next door before eating, only to find it out of service. At this time I have had American dollars on me and they took them. This has happened a couple times thru my trips. Each time, they have given me the current exchange rate with no problems. Just another idea if you find yourself in a fluid cash crunch.

How have the NFL Sundays been so far this year? One of my favorite memories of BsAs have been getting together to watch a little Futbol Americano far away from home.

HOw is the whole bikini show been? Peter do you have photos of the contestants? The winners?
Peter you should do a Girls Gone Wild with them too. Just make sure to get their ID's or you'll end up like joe francis in federal court.
============================================
Hi TangoManiac,
The Bikini Open is scheduled to begin this Sunday at 11pm. We have been deluged with overtures from chicas who wish to participate, mostly from the local universities where the El Alamo staff has been busy distributing flyers about the event. Peter changed the award schedule so that EVERY qualifying chica (sorry, no gordas) will receive $50 pesos for appearing, thus every contestant is a winner. However, we have decided to limit the nmber of intital contestants to 50 chicas.
Now to answer your question: Yes, the entire event will be photographed and you can expect that a selected number of these photos will be posted on the AP website.
Thanks,
Jackson

I had a late night and decided to have breakfast before going to sleep so I went and tryed out El Alamo. It was pretty empty when I walked in about 8 am, there was only about four people in there, 3 portenos and a portena (who was sleeping at the bar at the time) The atmosphere is nice and it seems a good place for the younger crowd. The T. V's were all showing tennis, which I don't really like but anyways. I ordered the big fucking breakfast and the omelete and my guest ordered the big breakfast. The waitress was a nice young lady named maryanne or maryela or something like that. The portenos finally stumbled out of the place about 15 minutes later just before our food got there.
The food was good, the bacon was great, though it wasn't cooked in straight strips, but who cares, it was good, the fries were good and so were the sausages, and the scrambled eggs were just right, I usually like my eggs over easy but I didn't want to trip anyone up on my first visit (though next time I will ask for over easy) A nice touch was the tabasco sauce, man I could drink that stuff (Note, a large bottle of tabasco sauce in Kiev cost me $50 US, and it was only sold in one Market chain) The omelete was also pretty good, and the toast was on the harder side, but I still liked it and in fact it actually went very well with the rest of the food as is. All in all I liked the whole place and I liked the food, it wasn't perfect but was very good, and whenever I am in the mood for some breakfast Americano style I will definitely try this place out again. A few suggestions,.
1) Pancakes. In the states I didn't have them all the time, but being in BA I miss them. And it would be nice to have a place that makes them.
2) A-1 steak sauce. I haven't been to El Alamo for lunch or dinner but it would be nice to have some good ol' A-1 (in europe I got used to HP, which was a good substitute but, in my opinion, not as good)
3) Heinz ketchup. Importing the stuff would be a nice added touch to the whole American theme. Living in europe I got used to the damn sweet ketchup and even resorted to salting it sometimes, but they also had heinz and most of the time I bought that. Anyway, for the french fries sweet ketchup just doesn't cut it.
Great place, good food, good service, and one of the only places in BA that actually feels a little like a breakfast diner back home. Sans the barfull of burly truckers and the senior citizen menu ;). That reminds me, next time I go I will have to try out and review their Steak and Eggs breakfast.

Will this be on at El Alamo tonite? (I've never been but am a Gringo who recently moved here part time) If not, where can I see it?
I'll settle for (an) Irish fan (s) and we can arm wrestle at halftime.

Great place to watch games. Only gets 1 game with sound but can show 3 games at same time.
Food is better than MacDonalds.
Packed during the games but vacant before and after.
Hey, is the contest still on? I didn't catch it when I was there in Nov. But I'll be back soon, just want to see how it is going.
This really is a great place to hang out. They have sports on the tube, and there are tons of sweet, young lovelies hanging out for the free beer and drinks. Last time I was there, I was waved over by some young darlings, less than half my age, they just wanted someone to buy them some drinks, and being the generous guy that I am (and since they are cheap as hell there) I bought them whatever they wanted. The cutest one finally threw up on me, it was all alcohol, washed right off.
I'm going back.
Did any of you guys catch the BSU vs OU football game last night? Amazing game! Especially the last few mins, I'm in Boise, and gotta support our team, Our town went crazy last night. Quick recap on you tube.

Peter always seems to be tweaking the formula at "Shoeless Joe's". Is it really Shoeless Joe's now? Or still / back to The Alamo? Sign outside says both.
When I got there last night some guy outside tried to get 15 pesos out of me to enter, and I talked my way past that. Once inside, it was explained to me that in fact it costs 15 pesos to enter now, which is good towards a couple of beers or something. I didn't want beers, I wanted a caesar salad, and that's what I had.
Upstairs was closed, very few people downstairs. Very quiet right now, I guess.

15 pesos to walk in the door of a restaurant? I don't drink and they wouldn't let me apply it to the jalapeno bacon cheeseburger I was dying for. My friend and I walked to another place and spent our 60 pesos there. Come on Peter. I understand why your doing it and don't have a problem showing my money at the door, but if I want food and am willing to pay for it don't you want to sell it to me?
My date and I also got a little peeved at the cover and turned around and left about a week ago.

I'm another one who did a 180 and walked away. I've never understood covers or minimums. They say to me "you probably won't like this place once you get inside, so we'll get some money from you now while we have the chance." I know that resturants have a problem with people occupying a table forever without spending any money. But if that's the problem you charge a $5 pesos per table per hour occupancy fee. Or just ask people to leave if they have been there a while without spending any money.
And, btw, $15 pesos is not, in my opinion, chump change. When I walked away from The Alamo last night I had a fine dinner at a place on Santa Fe for $34 pesos. No Bikini contest of course, but if I hadn't liked the menu, or the decor, or the temperature, or anything else I could have walked out without having spent a dime.

Yeah. The last time we were there was to watch the BCS Championship game. The place looked pretty empty and the door man asked for 30 pesos cover or something ridiculous like that. What a joke! I guess if they only want to cater to tourists who don't mind dropping 30 pesos to get in, then they are not trying to appeal to the locals here, like myself.
So we went to another sports bar (Locos for Football in Recoleta Village) that had it on much bigger and better televisions. Instead of those crappy little ones at the Alamo! It was packed but we managed to get a table. I was really turned off and think I'm over the Alamo, at least for now. I don't think the food is very good either. Except the breakfast, which is the only thing I like there now.
Before you guys start pounding on El Alamo, keep in mind all the good things that the proprietor has done for the mongering community, including, among other things, a FREE Thanksgiving Dinner for all the AP folks. If you don't like the cover charge, tell the owner so, and why. But I don't think ripping the place and announcing a boycott is warranted.
He has to make money - he's running a business after all. But there's a right way to show him that the cover charge is counterproductive for business.

I know Peter reads this forum, I told him in person the last time I was there how I felt about it. The difference the last time was he was there to waive it. This time he wasn't and lost the business.
Before this turns into a Hunt flame a thon, I'm not being rude just trying to let him know what happened and asking him to try and do something to keep it from happening in the future. It's his place and if he doesn't want to make a change I'm sure he can get by without my cheeseburger sale once a week.

I'm just over it for now. Thats all. I'm sure I'll end up there at some point again, but was a little put off by the large cover charge.
Also, one time I went there and the guy said twenty pesos cover charge, and I said, "What? That's crazy. Since when?" To which he replied, "Since always." When I told him that I had been there a handful of times and never paid a cover charge, he said "Where are you from?" When I told him I was from the U. S. He said, its ok, come on in. That's bullshit if you ask me. There is either a cover or there isn't one, I shouldn't have to argue my way into a bar.
I think Peter is between a rock and a hard place regarding his "business model". His place can't be all things to all people and my guess is that he is trying to navigate that problem. Some dispassionate dialogue is in order, and if that doesn't work to satisfy everybody, hey, you can't satisfy everybody.
I know Peter reads this forum, I told him in person the last time I was there how I felt about it. The difference the last time was he was there to waive it. This time he wasn't and lost the business.

The place has had an increasing problem with cheap riff-raff coming in and causing trouble yet not spending a single centavo. The solution for the proprietor has been to instigate a cover charge. Whether it's a good idea or not is besides the point - it is being done in order to make the place a more pleasant destination for paying customers (and ladies, I hasten to point out, drink FREE). And you have to credit this place for taking action before problems get out of hand, as well as being by far the most monger-friendly bar/restaurant in BsAs.
By the way, I believe that the poster who claimed he was able to go to Locos Para Futbol and watch the US sports channel on TV was, how shall I say this, "mistaken." That place doesn't have a single US TV channel. El Alamo is the only place in town where you can get just about every NFL, MLB, and NCAA game. 15 pesos is a small price to pay to keep out the troublemakers and to be able to watch the Bears on a Sunday afternoon. And as is apparent already, the 15 pesos cover is not even a universal charge.

Was this inflamatory did I attact Peter or his establishment? Or was it a little friendly cajoling (sp) on the part of a patron to an owner to try and do something about a policy I, as a patron, don't like at an establishment that I do enjoy?
For the record Hunt I didn't threaten your life, but rather your health there is a differance.
I really am interested in responces on this.
I don't agree with Hunt. If I think a bar's policy is wrong then I will say it. If they are worried about people not spending then charge a cover and give them credit towards the food or drink bill. Keeping out people who don't spend is fine but charging someone 15 pesos just so they can eat a cheeseburger is not.

They will also show the Superbowl at Locos, as well as at the Hard Rock Cafe (which is where I watched it last year) for no cover, so come February 4th if the Alamo is trying to charge a big cover charge, those places are better options. BobI asked him about that because the night I didn't go in there was the "bouncer" guy and what I thought was a waitress outside (young blonde, kinda cute) both of them said it was only good for drinks. Peter said it was good for anything, and he asked the bartender if it was good for anything and the bartender (young kid) nodded his head in agreement.
Peter told me the guy outside is a pelotudo and didn't know anything. Ok Peter didn't say he was a pelotudo I said that.
15 pesos to walk in, I almost always get a jalapeno cheeseburger which costs 15 pesos so I'll give it a shot next time I'm in the area.

Tons of Americans were there.
No cover there though I can understand why one would want to charge it. Argentines, especially teenie boppers, are notorious for coming in big loud groups and consuming one beer (or coffee) the whole night shared between several people. Shamrock and many other legit venues sometimes charge some kind of cover (often a ticket which gets you a drink or two) for that reason.
And I have no problem when such places waive the cover because they know I'm a regular and/or an American and therefore not a waste of revenue space. That's actually one of the few sensible moves I consistently see such businesses make.
Signs last night posted throughout re the Superbowl: 30p cover (not minimum)--- or--- 50p includes 2 beers, bottle or draft, and a dinner.

But obviously thats not a problem for them or they wouldn't be doing it.

I did go here once and it was probably not so busy a night, Sunday? Still, I got the impression that the place could very easily become a N. American expat hang-out for those with little cash to spend. Those who may like to get out of their hostel or the 100 sq ft apartment they are living in and be able to nurse a beer for 4 hours while watching some home grown sports.
From that perspective, I can see the owner wanting to ensure a minimum charge as it is the least offensive way to discourage the patrons wanting a 5 peso beer over 4 hours.

Greetings everyone,
I keep waiting for Peter or a forum member who works in El Alamo to chime in here to tell the full story, but until then here's what I know about the situation:
Since Peter first opened El Alamo he's been searching for the bar's most profitable demographic group.
First it is was to be a slightly upscale bar and restaurant for the upper-middle class Portenos living in the neighborhood. Nothing.
Then he started marketing the bar as an expat hangout, but other than during American sporting events the volume of business just wasn't there.
Finally, a few months ago he decided to start marketing to the local college students. Bingo! Since then the bar has been PACKED almost every night, especially after midnight through to the early morning hours. However, to deal with the phenomenon noted by Moore, Peter was compelled to institute a minimum consumption charge that has been mistakenly described here as a cover charge, which it is not. Nevertheless, I can tell you that Peter and the staff still welcome the expats, as one can observe on any Saturday and Sunday afternoon, and during which there is no "minimum consumption charge".
Thanks,
Jackson

The $15 AR male / $5 female CONSUMPTION charge begins at 9pm and is designed to achieve two objectives. First, it is to protect the integrity of the FREE beer promotion, which runs from 10-1030, 12-1230, and 3-330, and includes free unlimited draft beer (Quilmes) during those periods. Second, it keeps street bums from coming inside and taking up space without buying anything, or just buying a cafe con leche or a gaseosa, etc. This is only in effect during peak hours, if you come to El Alamo during the day or early evening there is no consumption charges.
In addressing the other issue, cover charges for certain sporting events, its pure capitalism gentlemen. For the BCS championship game, there was a $50 AR cover charge, which included any two beers of the customers choice. There were a few pissed off customers who did not want to pay the $50 AR entrance fee, a total of 10 refused to pay and did not get to watch the game, while over 100 customers paid the $50 AR entrance fee, so you decide who is right. There is no way Locos para Futbol had the BCS championship game; it was not available via Directv Latin America and Locos does not have the equipment necessary to get the game, they would have to have a US cable subscription and a US residence to feed it from, which they do not. El Alamo was the only establishment to show the game and that is why they were able to charge the $50 AR entrance fee.

But snotty, self-righteous, "you can't go anywhere else" rationalizations of "pure capitalism" don't make me want to be a customer then next time I'm in town.

Wanted to thank everybody for clearing it up. Obviously Peter can do as He wishes with his bar because, well, it's his bar. I hope the door staff has been clued into the fact that it's a consumption charge as that was the root cause of me leaving. I know that now but another person may not. Just tell them it's good for anything when they pay it, except for some of the bomboms at the bar.

That is the biggest bunch of horseshit I have ever heard of. A 50 peso cover charge? That is pure exploitation and greed. As well as deception.
I am 100% positive that the BCS game was on at Locos para Futbol, so I don't know why people keep trying to tell me that it wasn't. I sat there and watched it along with 50 other Americans. They had it on half of their screens, while the Argentina - Ecuador soccer game was on the other half of their screens. So it seems very possible that the other "100"customers (there were definitely fewer than 100 people there when I passed by) paid the entrance fee because they were lied to by the proprietors of the Alamo, who told them that they couldn't watch the game elsewhere, and that they were the only place in town to be showing it.
That last post by DD made me start to genuinely dislike the Alamo now. I think they have a terrible attitude toward customer service, and a $50 cover charge makes me want to never go back there again. Pure Capitalism? Go to hell. If there was ever a case of an owner pissing away the goodwill of his business.
That last post by DD made me start to genuinely dislike the Alamo now. Now? You've been going out of your way to post lies intended to hurt El Alamo for a while now. Is the truth actually that you had a dispute over a bill, and this is your way of getting revenge?
If you want to delude yourself into believing you can watch March Madness, the NFL playoffs, or MLB baseball at Locos Para Futbol, then be my guest - go there and don't go back to El Alamo. But kindly please refrain from any further posting of false information about El Alamo, which is one place where 99% of us mongers know we will be welcomed and which is run by one of us.
For those of you arriving late to this thread, keep in mind that there is one place in Buenos Aires which carries every major US sporting event, in English, for its customers. And it certainly isn't that Argentine place which has every soccer match, in Spanish, and virtually nothing else.

I know that the last thing anyone at the Alamo wants is to try to take advantage of any ex-pats or visiting mongers. As well, they give the locals great deals to encourage crowds everynight. That is a pretty rare situation here in BA where I have to make sure some clerk isn't trying to charge me 5 pesos for the 4 peso bottle of gatorade!
They could probably have charged 50 dollars for the BCS game and gotten a crowd because of the nature of the fans and the limited availability of the game down here, but they didn't. We are talking about 15 dollars - half of which got you two imported beers for 3-4 hours of entertainment. Their regular promotion cover charges the rest of the time must be a good deal because the place is jammed at night with young Argies, who could give us all lessons in being frugal and looking for the best deal.
In BA for the weekend. Went in last night, hoping to watch some NBA or NCAA tournament qualifiers. Couldn't quite figure out what was going on, tons of young pretty girls, who clearly had no interest in short fat white guys. After reading more this morning, I follow the free beer thing, seems like a fine idea. My only complaint is that they had no actual sports on TV, only spanish language Fox sports channel. (same as my Marriott room) Though, this seems to happen in sports bars around the world, either too busy to actually scan for live sports (it was Saturday night) or the waitresses end up running the TV's.

What you should have done after the Alamo is visited Newport. There as long as you have pesos. The girls do not care if you are "short fat white guy" or not. They will fuck you for a couple of hundered peso. That is what this city is all about.
You go watch a sporting event, have a great dinner and catch a show, and later and most important you can get cheap pussy anywhere, and at anytime. All for under 100 US dollars.

What kind of crowd do you expect for the throw down? Will I have to battle my way through smooching young argies, or will it be a fight crowd? Should be a very interesting match, and I hope de la Hoya has enough left at his age to make it interesting.

As always, if you arrive before 11pm, there is no prepaid consumption charge at the door. If you arrive after 11pm there is a $15 AR consumption charge which is the same as cash at the bar or for ordering food. Keep in mind the card starts at 10pm, and its anyone's guess what time the main event will actually come off.

Dirk,
I was at El Alamo today with some friends. We had previously checked out the online menu and had our preferences all ready, but when we got to the restaurant, we were given a menu that didn't have many of the things that were on the website. Did certain things get discontinued? Did I just get the lunch menu? I had wanted to try the lemon mint mouse but it wasn't on there.
BTW, the food was good as usual, I had the nachos and the BLT. The BLT was banging, first I have had in BA, delicious.

This place is full of young beautiful Argentine and American women after 11 p.m. on busy nights. Opportunity knocks. On the other hand, by that time it is also smokey and full of noise. If you want a peaceful bar, come earlier.
The food has gotten better recently, not doubt due in part to Dirk's positive influence. I enjoyed the Chicken saltado (basically fajitas) If it is crowded downstaris, try upstairs, where there is also a sit down bar where you can eat dinner. The website is out of date.

I've been hanging out at El Alamo every day since I've been here. I like the regular bar atmosphere, and the daily baseball! If you show up at about 3am to 4am there's quite a lot of talent, "pro" and "non pro" from what I've seen so far.
I would recommend it!
Cheers!
But arrive after 9am to avoid the drunks, that have been there all night. Thanks for the heads up Sid but I think you were off by a few hours. I went into El Alamo today around 10 am and was unpleasantly surprised by the local drunk riff raff. It seems that until around 12 noon this place is still more of a club / bar than a restaurant. At least that is what I was told by the waitress when I asked what the deal was with the 20 plus loud drunks.
Now on to the food, I went with two guests and they both had the american breakfasts, though they were out of fries so we had nacho chips. I had the Burger, which was delicious. The food, as usual, was good, but the atmosphere for the breakfast crowd was not very appealing.
As a lunch spot this place still rocks but if you are looking for a quiet place where to enjoy a good American breakfast, this place has lost that title. The law of supply and demand has come into effect and I guess there is a much greater demand for a 24 hour bar for sleazy looking drunk locals than there is for a classy breakfast joint.
The food was good and the staff was very polite and attentive, but the loud music, 20+ drunk smelly loud patrons and all that cigarette smoke did not really wet my appetite.
I would definitely return but only after 12 noon and either have the breakfast then or have one of their great burgers. But as far as breakfast time is concerned I would not go back unless I am one of those drunk patrons looking for a place to sober up before going back home.

It's still a few days off, but will the throw down between Auburn and Georgia be shown in your venerable establishment Saturday? I'm bringing asshole Georgia lover El Sid with me so I can yell at him. And don't ask him for his phone number, he never gives it out.
We usually show most Georgia games, since there is a very large Gerogia fanbase here who are studying abroad.

Never has a handle seemed so apropriate;-) I went to kansas for dinner then to cafe orleans. Met 2 dominicanas. One was hot the other had a cute face but less than great body but was really friendly and nice. We made plans to meet and they would take me to Big Flow dominican disco. I headed to hook and some lil dominican spinner was all over me but so fake it was funny.
I asked for bill so I could head back to my hotel and freshen up and the spinner said she needed some air and followed me out. She grabbed my arm and starts walking me to my hotel. I aske where is she going. She says home to sleep since I wouldn't take her to Big Flow. I said cool. She kept walking with me.
I said. How strange that you seem to live near my hotel. She didn't get it.
When we get to my hotel I say I am going upstairs to change and then to Big Flow, what are you doing. She says OK I will go back to my boliche, give me "por lo menos" cien pesos. I say "for what". She says for her time she lost walking with me. I laugh and say "tu estas sonando". And crossed the street to my hotel.
This girl is in love with herself. Constantly looking in mirror and asking me if her ass looked great. Pulling down her pants and putting my hands on her ass. She asked if she had the best ass I have ever seen. I laughed and said no, I live in the DR and see equal or better every day. She thought I was kidding. I pulled out iphone and showed her pics of my dominican ex novia. She was zzoming in and raving about my ex's body. Took phone to show other chicas etc. Too funny. I explained that I get chicas like that all the time for free and was not interested in coming all the way to BA to bang a dominicana for 300 pesos. Lol.
Had a great time at Big Flow. I am honestly not all that attracted to argentinan women. This is my second trip and just walking around the streets or shopping in other countries I am usually impressed by local talent. I haven's said wow even once in 2 trips here.
The better looking chicas in the boliches seem to be dominican or from paraguay. Big Flow had better looking chicas than most boliches I went to and younger as well. I hung with my 2 amigas and the not so hot one was making out with me all night. The hot one wanted to dance and the 2 chicas danced together a ton. There was a lot of this. Lots of chicas were there alone or in groups of chicas. I guess there are more women there from DR than men for obvious employment reasons.
Next trip I will head there solo and see what shakes. I will also try and check out El Alamo before I leave. I shouldn't let some dickhead lose them a customer;-)
BTW, although I am new to AP I have been an ISG senior member sicne WSG days and post more often in DR section, as that is what I know best.
Forget Dickhead.
I'm curious why you visit BA if you don't like the look of the local women and spend your time hanging with what you seem to feel are sub-standard Dominicas. Why not just stay in DR or visit countries where the women look more like Dominicanas?
I can understand the first trip but not the second or the next one.

El Alamo is now serving Gulmen Patagonian Microbrews on tap, beginning today. Roughly every week, the offering will change, to begin with it will be a Cream Stout followed by a Wheat Lager. El Alamo will be the only bar in Buenos Aires selling these beers on tap (other places have them in bottles) Within a couple of weeks, El Alamo will also have both Heineken and Budweiser (El Alamo will be the only bar in Buenos Aires serving Budweiser on tap as well) on tap.

Hey RH. Good luck with the microbrews!
I just checked Ratebeer. This Gulmen place is out of Viedma, Argentina, and makes some decent beer, especially for there. I guarantee you, a German based brewer is behind them. Their Barleywine is 10. 5 % alcohol.

I am 99% sure that El Alamo will reopen tomorrow, Wednesday August 13th. It was closed down by the City of Buenos Aires last Thursday night under charges of alleged overcapacity (which was in fact not true) smoking in an unauthorized area (also false) and undocumented employees (false) Essentially it comes down to whether you pay the police or not, and we were not paying the police, and they orchestrated this bullshit. We will avoid this in the future by doing the obvious.

Seems the El alamo has made the internet on another forum.
Our friend Rock Harders has been plying young attractive women with free drinks and its making some people worried.

This chick exemplifies what I HATE about N American women. Her whole story is about people having a good time and enjoying themselves. Her friend gets drunk and fucks her brains out. Call the morality police because obviously there is something sinister about that. Fucking American women, they shouldn't be allowed to breed.

Went to El Alamo today around 2 am. There where allot of young women there on a Monday night, I was surprised. I changed some dollars for peso with Dave, and he gave me the best rate I have found in town. He also brought me a beer.
Went to a very important governmental office today (I don't want to say which one because what I am going to relate may not be officially sanctioned)
Group after group of Americans asked the officials at the counter where they could see the swearing in of President Obama. Every official said "Shoeless Joe's El Alamo"
When it was finally my turn I asked the same question. The government official behind the counter said " We are recommending Shoeless Joe's El Alamo to everyone."
I think Rock Harders and Dave are in the majors now.

Their ''mommas have told them to ''never'' talk to a new man! They are all potential rapists! Once, at the Alamo, I was sitting beside many U of GA girls watching a GA football game, wearing a GA hat. Their ''protective friends were really afraid and pissed at them for talking to a stranger!Sidney,
You have a face that would stop a clock. Even Georgia girls have to maintain some kind of standards. Bully for them!
PS - Did you try the "free drinks for girls" trick? That usually lowers their standards pretty quickly.
What are you CRAZY? The Fedor Vs Arlovski fight? If you are a boxing fan and saw what Margarito did to Cotto your gonna want to see Margarito fight.

Hi Sid,
I watched it at home. If I would have known sooner, I would have made plans to watch it with you guys. I've been training in martial arts since I was a child, so I know MMA quite well. It's nice to know we have a sports bar in town that's up on the current fight scene. I will be joining you guys for the next one. You can count on it.
Main event results:
Lesnar KO Mir (not what I expected but that disgraceful brute wouldn't be denied. His days are numbered though. Fedor is coming to the UFC)
Hendo KO Bisping (I know all the Brits in the bar shed a tear over that one, but big mouth had it coming " Falcon Punch " lol)
GSP Decision Alves (fought a safe and boring fight, too bad)
Next great cards for the year are:
Affliction 3 August 1st (Fedor Emilianenko Vs Josh Barnett for the WAMMA HW title)
UFC 104 October 24 (Machida Vs Shogun for the UFC LHW title + Carwin Vs Velasquez for a UFC HW title shot against Lesnar)
Regards,

Thanks again Rock, for this event! It was even better because a friend, Abel, a fighter himself, explained to us, all about the fighters and the sport!

Ricardo is not "persona non grata aqui". He just needs to post about something besides politics, which I suspect he can't actually do because he's actually a professional political propagandist who is participating in a coordinated scheme in which he and others are organized and encouraged to go out into the blogosphere and influence the political thinking of otherwise unsuspecting forum and blog participants by posting professionally written "mini essays" which they are provided for just such a purpose.
These political operatives are also provided with professionally written jokes which they may post to camouflage their primary agenda.
In other words, he embodies the definition of a Political Serial Antagonist.

JacksonI have my doubts about whether he's a "professional political operative," but I do understand that maintaining decorum on a website like this must be a difficult and, undoubtedly, thankless task. My conjecture would be that he's just a smart guy from the opposite end of the political spectrum. As I understand it, he's met up with a few of the regulars here at one or two local haunts, Sid included. That doesn't mean he's not an "operative," but it does suggest that he's not just a faceless propogandist.
At any rate, I thought he was banished because all of the PMs he sent me (some of which I hadn't read) disappeared a few weeks ago. If that's not accurate, then I apologize for the "non grata" stuff. Since I don't run the website -- and therefore don't have to spend a good chunk of my day cleaning it up -- it wasn't my intention to comment on whether or not it was the right thing to do.

Hi Stan,
He used the forum's PM system to send multiple copies of professionally written political "white papers", to which he would purport to be the author, to dozens of forum members with whom he had no prior communication.
These unsolicited spam PMs were an obvious indication of his true agenda.

Regarding El Alamo, before heading to Recoleta last night I stopped by here with the intention of having a light dinner and to give one of the board's advertisers some business. From what I could see through the door, the place was packed, but a gentleman at the door wanted 20 pesos entry fee to go inside. I think he mentioned it included a drink, but I just wanted to see a menu first and then order. I decided to go elsewhere. Is the 20 pesos fee standard here every night?
Hi Esten,
From what I understand the $ 20 pesos can be used as credit to your meal. I am pretty sure the fee is only at night. I was never charged $ 20 pesos when I went during the day.

The $20 pesos that is charged at the door at El Alamo is a minimum consumption fee and can be used to order anything on the menu whether it be food, drink, or any other product sold at the bar. On Thursday and Friday nights, the minimum consumption fee rises to $30 pesos for men and again can be used in its entirety to order anything on the menu. El Alamo accepts any hard currency at market rate in addition to Visa, Mastercard and Amex.

I'm sure all the regular posters now about El Alamo, but in case someone new reads this thread I thought I would write this.
I've been to El Alamo twice and both times have had absolutely great experiences. In my opinion the service is excellent. I went there to watch a televised soccer match between two obscure (from an Argentinian point of view) countries, and both times the staff let me occupy one of the screens even though I was the only one interested in the games and there were a bunch of college football games on at the same time at my first visit.
Oh, and I was never left with an empty bottle / glass. That's definitely appreciated while watching soccer.:-)
PS: I realize that I might look like a shill, but that's not the case. I just wanted to compliment a business that provides a service I couldn't find anywhere else in town, and at the same time does quite a good job.

The Clarin reported today a change in the liquor laws:
Mientras la Justicia resuelve, los nuevos horarios comenzaran a correr hoy. ¿see youáles son?:
**************************************************
Basically, restaurants can sell alcohol until 5am and clients have until 5:30 to drink up. 10am you can return to drinking.
Bars can't let anyone in after 4am but if you're already there you can drink until 5. 7:00 you have to close.
Question: Is the Alamo a comercio gastronomico or a boliche?

Stopped by late Friday night. I have no idea about the cover charge, but the two security guys wouldn't let us in because they said my friend had too much to drink. I have no idea what they based the decision on, as he never even spoke to them, was leading our little group to the door, and was extremely friendly even when they told him this. My opinion is they didn't want us there, perpaps because we would have skewed the demographics.
My buddy is a frequent visitor of the establishment. I used to be, but am 0-2 recently. Last time, a guy was talking about another X-Pat bar down the street which got him chastised by the owner. Then, another guy angled the monitor so he could see the crappy SlingBox feed better, which led to him getting chastised.
Love baseball and American history, but I think I'm moving El Alamo down a few notches on my BA consumption pattern.
Something sounds a bit wrong here:
1. If you love american history and sports you likely to find neither after 2am on any night. This is when El Alamo is a young argentine bar and if you do not fit this demographic or want to be a part of it than it is no place to go.
2. El Alamo is by far the best place to watch any NA sporting event and am sure the world cup will be quite an event as well. I think I saw somebody lamenting no big hambergers at another establishment and these are very good (as well as other good sports / drinking food) as well.
I have spent a few years and much time at this establishment and have had few complaints. Maybe if my name was Mike Hunt and I said it very fast I would have a differnet opinion.

I think the comment about American history was the name 'Remember the Alamo'. It even has that written on their advertising banner just near where it says 'open 24 hours'. There wasn't any when I was there last year watching the Pats vs. Colts in a great football game, and there was no one monitoring who was allowed in. I also didn't think it was expensive. In fact, I went to Madaho's later that night for an hour and spent ten times what I spent at El Alamo in three hours -- and didn't have as much fun, at least not until I left Madaho's.
Perhaps there are other alternatives. I'm no expert. But "El Alamo" and "sketchy" don't belong in the same sentence, in my opinion. It's a good place. I don't know what your standard for "expensive" is, but I would definitely not call it that, nor would I call it "sketchy."

These are the FACTS about El Alamo:
- All US and International sporting events are shown via US satellite feed.
- The prices are without a doubt the lowest in Recoleta.
- There is a minimum CONSUMPTION charge that is paid at the door, which is redeemable at face value for food and / or drink.
- There are no standards for admission to El Alamo; on weekend nights El Alamo is so popular with the locals that it always reaches its maximum capacity by 10pm; at that point a line forms and prospective customers must wait until a space opens up to enter. Known regulars and friends of the bar are allowed to skip the line and enter at their leisure.

The hours of operation at El Alamo are 4pm-4am Monday-Thursday and 12pm-4am Friday-Sunday. There is never a big crowd or a minimum consumption charge before 6pm and on Sundays there is no minimum consumption charge at all. I would not recommend that older folks come after 8pm Wednesday-Friday as it will be extremely crowded and noisy. On Saturdays everything is relatively quiet until 11pm and until that hour the customers are mostly Americans watching sports and groups of well-behaved Argentines eating, drinking and socializing. El Alamo has a $40 AR MINIMUM CONSUMPTION charge payable as you walk in the door. Patrons are given a ticket that is then good for $40 AR of whatever they choose to order from the menu, food and / or drink. This is standard procedure in all successful bars / nightspots in Buenos Aires as space is limited and Argentines will not spend money unless they are obligated to do so. Keep in mind that both Saturday and Sunday afternoons for NCAA and NFL football there is NO MINIMUM CONSUMPTION charge as the customers are all Americans and it is therefore not necessary.

I only wish they would work on their burgers, which on my last couple of visits have been, well, not so tasty. But I don't go there for the food; it's all about beer and sports.Love it too. Unlimited beer is good news in anyones books!
Just where is El Alamo, I have looked through some of the pages but cannot find the address.

It has been some weeks now?Hi Guys,
As some of you already know, for the past several weeks I have been heavily involved in working with the owners of El Alamo to open their new location in Palermo.
This endeavor has precluded any opportunity for me to have the time to host the regular Friday night dinners.
I expect to resume the regular schedule with a dinner on Friday, Dec 21st.
Thanks,
Jackson.

Second alamo the original continues as it wasMy only problem with the existing location is the total disregard for residents in a nearby apartment when the kids leave the bar at 3, 4, 5 in the morning. Drunk, disorderly and noisy. Can't the management do anything about this. For some veeeery strange reason the cops decide to turn a blind eye. I wonder why?

My only problem with the existing location is the total disregard for residents in a nearby apartment when the kids leave the bar at 3, 4, 5 in the morning. Drunk, disorderly and noisy. Can't the management do anything about this. For some veeeery strange reason the cops decide to turn a blind eye. I wonder why?Why would the management of a bar have to take a role in the actions of their patrons when they are walking in the street? If you live here you know that the coima you imply they are paying is simply to stay open. There isn't a single bar in this city that doesn't create this same problem. I would credit it more to the overall rudeness and inconsideration of young adults here than some payoff the bar is making to the PFA.
Anybody who lives in smack dab downtown ANY major world class city and expects peace and quiet is pretty much fucked. Of course a US perspective would be the bar is overserving a lot of these people. Hence in the US you never see the "drown nights" that can lead to this behavior. I personally think the bar's responsibility ends when the patron hits the sidewalk but if you continually piss off the neighbors, you might have problems with your license. In the US those might be serious problems but in BA would just increase the coima and hence be merely another overhead expense. This Dallas Cowboy who killed his teammate, they are chasing down the bars where they drank right now. My state, fortunately, has what is known as "dramshop laws" so the bars could not get sued in this type of situation. You wonder how many of those young sots spilling out of El Alamo at closing then proceed to drive. Probably not too many, but for sure some.

Seriously, do you really think anything we say here will make any difference to Alamo's business? Do you have any idea how much this place grosses and how long the lineups are for this place on weekends? Anything anyone says here will not have any impact on Alamo's usual clentele. They don't give a shit what we old farts have to say!
Jax may be a partner in the new Alamo, but I am sure he won't be overly concerned about you honestly exercising your freedom of speech on this topic.
When is the new one opening? I'll be staying in Palermo Hollywood for 6 weeks starting at the end of the month and looking for a local place to catch the NFL playoffs.

Jax may be a partner in the new Alamo, but I am sure he won't be overly concerned about you honestly exercising your freedom of speech on this topic.Well, its a new bar afterall. New location. The owner of this forum is not a co-owner of the old Alamo. He will be the co-owner of the Alamo 2. So irrespective of what business the old one does, the new one will not necessarily hit the ground running. It may take some time (logically speaking) to reach level of Alamo 1.
Yes, you guys are right. If a place is good, it does not matter if one or two guys speak bad about it.
It is not about a free dinner. If I co-own a bar, I would just want to read only and only good things written about it on the net prior its opening especially on my own website. Just my 2 cents. And yes, Jackson is a dear friend of mine.

I have no financial interest in the original Alamo, but I have known all the parties involved in the business and the building for years.
I can tell you categorically that the owners of El Alamo have never held a "total disregard for residents in a nearby apartment". In fact, they have taken a number of measures over the years in direct response to the neighbor concerns, said measures specifically intended to mitigate the impact of their operation on the neighborhood, including curtailing the bar's hours of operation, blocking off the exterior windows to reduce street gawkers, posting security guards outside the building, and even paying to install new double paned windows in many of the adjacent neighbor's windows to curtail the effects of the street noise.
Thanks,
Jackson

What is the address of the 2nd location? I wish them well and expect another great success story.Hi Guys,
El Alamo's new 2nd location is on Cordoba just a couple of blocks from Juan B Justo. I'm deliberately withholding the address until we're ready for the public.
We have not yet established an opening date, but I expect that it will be sometime on or immediately after January 1st.
The new 2nd location will be ideal for watching college and pro football, with five 55" HDTVs throughout the bar room, each independently capable of receiving all the games from the USA.
We're also planning a live music venue on the 2nd floor, and an outdoor bar with another TV on the rooftop terrace.
Stay tuned.

Jackson

Greetings everyone,
We opened EL Alamo Palermo last Thursday night, just 48 days after we took possession of the property, and just 14 days after the idiot Exon stood in the middle of the construction project and proclaimed "You won't be open until mid February".
Personally, I think that completely remodeling a 4,000 SF facility, including a new kitchen, a handicapped bathroom, a 12 meter long bar, all new electrical and redecorating everything in less than 7 weeks was a commendable achievement.
Anyway, the place looks great, and we opened to a full house.
I'd like to invite everyone to come by and check the place out.

TLThe building has central A/C, with separate roof-top units for each floor, with the capacity sufficient to heat and cool the bar room full of customers.
Nevertheless, we are adding two additional 15k units this week to ensure that we can heat and cool the place under any conditions, regardless of the building's occupancy or the outside weather conditions.
Regarding the fire escape, the building is a "purpose-built" concrete structure, which means that it was originally designed and built to conform to all the fire codes, including 10 ft wide stairways to / from all floors. We also have smoke detectors in the kitchen and the bathrooms, and 6 fire extinguishers on each floor. The building has been inspected by the Fire Inspectors and we have passed all the requirements for the current use.
Nevertheless, in order to obtain a separate license to operate a live music venue on the 2nd floor, we will be installing a sophisticated central fire detection system with multiple smoke / fire detectors throughout the building, all connected to a central panel in the security office and to the local fire department, plus effecting additional physical modifications such as installing fire-proof ceiling tiles, etc.
Thanks,
Jackson

The times that I have been to the original Alamo were uncomfortable due to the Lack of air-conditioning and I always sat under the ac at the end of the bar, the locals just don't care or they are accustomed to 100 degree weather. I'm buying an ac unit for my apartment this week. I had 2 15k units at my resto that I could have given you; they were new and they were Surreys. Stolen right off of my roof in December! I was going to put them in my pad but they were 3-phase.
Anyway, the 48 days in the hole is unbelievable! Fuck, it took X 4 years to re-open!
I was there last night at midnight and a street walker walked past and sat down with a couple of locals for a bit of champagne so I witnessed the FIRST HOOKER at X!
You must have used a Paraguayan Labor Force, payed well and planned things out carefully; guess you were there every day sort of like a Supervisor.
Would like to see it soon.

I went here one of these days and found the place quite nice. It resembles a typical US bar, but not in a bad way. The added AC is dearly needed though, as we were sweating and it was not even a warm day.
The service on the bar was good, the fries very good and the burger itself okay.
The crowd is quite young (college age) and there were quite a few attractive girls, too. It got very full until around 11, when we left.

Is the unit secured from possible theft? What type of theft?
Down here we have :
Employee Theft, a national sport. Watch them like a hawk!
Customer Theft, a close second.
Inspector Theft, ALL of them.
Attorney, Escribano, repairmen and last but not the least by any means are the corruptable Police officers.
I think it's great knowing that I can bribe my way out of ALMOST anything in this country!
Think of the possibillities :
I can drive drunk with a bunch of stash a young girl in the front seat and a party in my pocket!
Not ALL officers are corrupt or bribeable but I sure like the odds down here compared to the USA!

P. S. You guys may think I am exaggerating but all of the above is very true and worth keeping an eye on if you own a business down here.
Is the unit secured from possible theft?"10 tons" referrers to it's cooling capacity, not it's actual weight, thank you.
Nevertheless, we chained it down with a padlock.
I think that should do it.

Some of you will remember me as the guy who brought Philly TastyKake Butterscotch Krimpets.
I am still living and when I get to BA again, I as a life long Philadelpian will give my opinion as to Alamo's cheese steaks.
There is a beautiful picture of Rocky and the El Alamo storefront but i have unable to transfer to this Blog. If someone knows how to do it, Pm me with your E-Mail and I will send it to you.

Really South Philly: Rocky's cheesesteaks are the best ... in Argentina
Matthew (LN) opened Rocky's as a nod to a great urban food item, a great movie . . . and a great nosh to go along with the drinks he serves at El Alamo, his bar.
Story Highlights
• opened Rocky's Philly Steaks last June in Buenos Aires.
• (LN) thought the cuisine would be popular because Argentines like beef.
• Rocky’s was conceived as a side project, second to (LN’)s bar next door, El Alamo.
JOLIE DARROW, For the Daily News

ONE CAN only imagine what the late Joey Vento of Geno's fame would have thought of a cheesesteak joint where it's expected that customers will order in Spanish. But we assume that even Vento, who notoriously asked that his customers order in English, would have no beef with Rocky's Philly Steaks. After all, it's in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
So, how on earth did the cheesesteak migrate 5,266 miles south?
"I thought the Argentines would like the cheesesteak," explained Matthew J. (LN). With his business partner, David (LN)of Denver, Colo., (LN), a 29-year-old Spring Lake, N.J., native, opened Rocky's last June in the upscale Recoleta neighborhood (think Rittenhouse Square) of Buenos Aires.
"I thought Philly cheesesteaks would be popular here because Argentines like beef, and it's not spicy or something like that, that wouldn't go with their taste," (LN) said. "Just greasy beef stuff. That's what they like."
(LN) moved to Buenos Aires in 2005 after graduating with an international-relations degree from the University of Delaware. Although not from Philadelphia, he has spent a lot of time in the area - enough to have a cheesesteak fave: Larry's Steaks, in West Philly.
Rocky's was conceived as a sort of side project; (LN)'s main business is El Alamo, a student-oriented bar next door to the shop, which he took over in 2008.
Drawing from the late-night-munchies culture of American universities (LN) decided to buy the storefront next to El Alamo when it became available, figuring that the pairing of bars and cheesesteaks knows no international boundaries. "We figured we would open some kind of food place where drunk people would go, and we'd capture that market," he said.
A 'yo' atmosphere
Despite its location, Rocky's wouldn't look out of place in the Quaker City. It's housed in a building with a 19th-century facade, and the walls boast a number of Philly totems, from a painting of South 9th Street to a poster for the most recent "Rocky" movie, "Rocky Balboa." There is also a picture of Geno's, and an interior shot of Jim's on South Street.
Interestingly, Rocky's is not the first tribute to Philly culture in Buenos Aires. A store on Avenida Santa Fe, the main drag in the Palermo district, is called Love Park, and uses for its logo the same lettering found on the iconic Center City sculpture by Robert Indiana. And the city is filled with fans of the "Rocky" films, so much so that hardly a day goes by when one of the films isn't screened on local TV.
As for the sandwich, things, by necessity, aren't exactly authentic. For instance, cheesesteak aficionados would likely note the absence of Amoroso rolls and Cheez Whiz or provolone.
(LN) says the key to his product is adaptability.
"You can't get the exact same thing they have in [Philadelphia]," he said. "Like the airy Italian roll, that's hard to get. We've been using baguettes mostly - we have a place that makes them especially for us. They make them daily, so they stay fresh. And they make them a little bit bigger than your standard baguette."
The cheese Rocky's uses is what (LN) described as a machine-processed Argentine equivalent of American cheese.
The one ingredient that Rocky's definitely gets right is the meat. He said that he uses rib eye because Argentines are accustomed to their nation's top-grade beef and would not accept a lesser grade.
As they are here, the standard toppings at Rocky's are fried onions and peppers. Mayonnaise is slathered on the roll unless the customer opts out. Other condiments, like jalapeños and homemade hot sauce, are available upon request (presumably for foreigners, as Argentines have a general aversion to spicy foods).
Rocky's menu has other stuff, including hotdogs - known in Argentina as panchos - and tacos. The cheesesteak, which goes for 35 Argentine pesos (about $7), reigns as the most popular item.
Drawing a crowd
Adapting the Philly cheesesteak to Argentine culture isn't just about the food. It also drives the environment inside the shop, which has several tables and a window-side counter.
"Argentines don't spend a lot of money when they're out," said Sabrina Espinosa, Rocky's general manager. She was referring to an aspect of Argentine culture that is far-removed from the grab-and-go American way of dining: Argentines tend to spend hours in cafés and restaurants catching up with friends or working on their laptops - often without buying more than a soda. Espinosa said the tables and Wi-Fi have been set up to make the locals "feel at home."
But Argentines are not the only clientele that the owners had in mind for Rocky's. U.S. sporting events are shown on the restaurant's TV, creating an added draw. "We have, I'd say, several dozen American expats who come here all the time," said (LN), "and there are some who come here a couple times a day. They just love it."
As do the locals. "As soon as they try it, they love it," he said of the Philly classic.
(LN)'s assertion was confirmed in conversation with customers.
"Muy rico! Muy bueno! [Verytasty!Verygood!]," said 25-year-old Mealisa Alonso after trying her first bite of a Rocky's steak. Alonso, who lives outside the city, was in the neighborhood for a doctor's appointment. A true fan of the "Rocky" movies (her favorite is "Rocky IV"), she wandered into the shop, intrigued by the name. She said she'd be back.
Alejandro Acaval, 49, was similarly taken by the store's name - he, too, watches the movies all the time. He said he'd visited Philadelphia many years ago but had never tried a cheesesteak. He certainly seemed happy after taking the plunge at Rocky's.
"This is really great, really great!" Acaval raved in Spanish. "A nice place, too."
One might say that Alonso, Acaval and the rest of their fellow countrymen who enjoy Rocky's are now cheesesteak fans.
But we'd rather think of them as "Phanáticos."

Take a walk inside and it's the exact same place with all the same employees, management, policies and procedures.Just a shame about the drunken kids yelling, screaming around 3-4 am and waking the whole neighbourhood up. Seems like the cops don't want to get involved.

The reason I thought it was not open is because there are no signs as to what the hours are or which door to push or pull to get in.
Years ago you could walk and look inside the windows, now no windows. The two main doors are not the way to get in anymore.
The door and the left is the one. Not the one that goes upstairs.
It seems like a private club, only the locals know about.
There was a door guy around 10 pm.
I asked to see the Hefe. He was not there.
It used to be a nice place to have a beer or watch a game.
Oh well, time changes and the old days are no more.
After many years, I finally went there with a friend to check what this place was about.
Nice place, its seems that somthing might have happened there for it to change its name... The Mo (what?) I did not notice its mongering value, if that was something to have in mind.
I felt old there, except for the only guy over 47 (my age) that seemed to know many people and have a nice time being the English-speaking foreigner among many Argentinos an Colombian guys and girls.
I must have missed something... What was the deal with this place anyway?
Please let me know if it moved along with its mongering value to Av Cordoba or what.
Thanks!

A long time ago it was an expat bar filled with old mongers. Then some guys decided to make money and got rid of us and filled it with young kids. It's a cool place to watch football on Saturday and Sunday but outside of that it's not a place for grownups.
They needed to change the name awhile ago so el AlaMO got shortened to The Mo.

Didn't someone on this forum once own El Alamo in Uruguay Street? Or maybe still does?
