View Full Version : Buying prescription drugs in Argentina
OK, It seems like their is no one talking about this. What little I hear is about different men legally getting generic forms of viagra from pharmacies in BS without a doctors prescription.
My question is simple. Can you get vicoden or percocet the same way. What do you do to get it. What do you ask for, and does anyone know the costs. Thanks.
Ampfofu,
"legally" may be the wrong expression. The packages sold in Argentina also have the note on them that they are only to be sold under a prescription. I don't know, how throughout this is enforced - apparently not enough to keep a lot of pharmacists from selling prescription drugs over the counter.
Your chances are good if you go to a small, independent pharmacy (not one of the chains like FarmaCity) and just ask. If you don't know an Argentinean brand name, ask for the generic name of the active ingredient, I. E. Sildenafil instead of Viagra.
And, be sure you know what you are doing.
Hope that helps,
El Alemán

You cannot get any painkillers without a prescription. The ones you are asking about are narcotics. Heroin, oxycontin, vicodin, percocet etc. Etc. Are ALL opiates. Take a couple of aspirin.

Can any of you vets in AR (be. A. Especially) tell me if it is possible to purchase cialis and viagra (etc. -- or their generic versions -- in AR w / o a prescription? As of the time of this quote (some time back) there is mention by several Board members that small independent pharmacies might supply the generic V. When I was there earlier this year I had a small supply with me and didn't need to go searching.
My preference is for cialis, and while I can bring some down with me when I journey south next month, I'd prefer to buy there if available and the price is competitive. Any advice -- and the generic name for the cialis equivalent (if available) would be appreciated. Available in larger cities outside B. A. as well?
Thanks!
You do not legally need a prescription for Cialis. You do not need to know the generic name. I have never seen Levitra here. Viagra technically requires a prescription but most smaller places will sell it without one. PharmaCity will not sell it without a prescription. I think there is a separate thread on this. Go to Farmacia Azul on Córdoba betwen Florida and San Martín on the north side of the street.
Check out the "Buying Viagra" thread under "Travel Information". Seems to be in a strange place, but I guess it's a case of have gun will travel. Badda bing.
The Generic Name for Cialis is Tadalafil. As far as I know, there is no generic as of yet, and just about all the pharmacists recongnize it by Cialis name.
As for the price, a box of 4 tablets (20 mg each) costs about AR$120, after all the discounts. If anyone knows a cheaper place please let me know.
I find it particularly useful for the 4th and 5th shags of the day. For most people, half a tablet (10mg) is enough.

SexplorerA box of four tablets (20 mg each) will cost about AR$92 at the pharmacy that is located on calle Paraguay (Paraguay and Florida) Just tell the pharmacist what you want and that you will be paying cash and you would like the 25% discount.
Thank you all for this fine info. I shall put it to good use and provide a status report.
Does anybody know where to find some TUMS, or the equivalent? So far, all I've seen are small packages of Myalanta (sp) I'm looking for the over the counter bottle we can pick up anywhere in the states. My bottle didn't quite make it a year. Muchas gracias.

Some of the independent pharmacies carry tums in the small plastic container (24 or 36? As with many things here inventory is not consistent. I have bought them but cannot give you specific locations. Not cheap either.

If you are having reflux problems, I take ranitidine (the generic form of Zantac) and I know that it is available in Argentina. But unlike Tums you should take it before eating. But please, if you are inclined to try ranitidine do a web search and read up on it so that you are familiar with proper usage and side effects etc.

As advised by Thomaso I checked out a small pharmacy and after being offered the usual small packets of Mylanta or whatever, I mentioned Tums. Voila! A bottle of nice little Tums.

Dog: you should have done what I do - buy out the whole stock becasue next time they may not have them!
Checked out Farmacia Azul today to stock up on script drugs prior to leaving BA. Very impressive place, professional staff, quick, easy, in and out in less than 15 minutes with everything I wanted. Paid about 60p for stuff that would easily have been $140-150US or more. A great resource for residents and visitors. On Cordoba between Florida and San Martin. When walking to catch my bus back I was stopped by a very sexy chick cop who asked a question in castellano. I met her big smile with my own, but alas my castellano skills are very limited. I'd like to fuck a chick cop with at least part of her uniform on. Thomaso, what's that like?:D
My advice when at the pharmacy is to purchase gador alprazolam 2mg. Its the Strongest xanax I have ever taken. I get them sent here to the U. S. By a email only source out of argentina. If pharmacy doesn't have gador (manufacturer) ask about denver alprazolam 2mg. Ask for Alplax Gador at pharmacy. Its my understanding benzo's are over the counter in Argentina. Also if you prefer valium 10mg ask for Fabotranil Fabop x 10mg . You guys are rite on the viagra. I checked his price list he wasn't serious money for those. 30 50mg tabs 140.00 dollars. For pain in argentina don't think available over the counter ask for Voltaren Forte or oxy forte which is 50mg and 50mg Codeine+Diclofenac.
I made a trip to the usually reliable Farmacia Azul on Cordoba today to replenish my sleeping pill supply. I've never had a problem getting the local version of Ambien without a script. Not so today, as I was offerred some of that Melatonin shit instead and told that, indeed, I would need a script for Ambien. Bad news.
Please post if you have a pharmacy where you don't need a script for this or benzos.
To add insult to injury, I asked an attractive MD with Swiss Medical today for a strong sleeper to go along with my antibiotic and she not only said "no", she LAUGHED at me! WTF? Must be time to further cut the locks and work on a less drug addicted "look".:)

Did you ask for the english speaking pharmacist? The other goons won't go for it.
I picked up some Sumenan (name in AR for Zolpediem aka Ambien) from there yesterday, along with some vitamin V. Nothing but smiles.
In hindsight I need to go back anyways to see if they have the XR version. Ill try tomorrow.

As I remember it was some new little squirt I had never seen before who waited on me. I'll go back and demand my Ambien and see if I can score some Oxycontin to go along with it.:)
I don't think you can get XR version of Ambien here. I tried several times.
Which one is a good sleeping pill that is not too strong or addictive for regular consumption, as I have insomnia frequently.
I use extra strength Unisom back in Canada
Why would you ask that question of a bunch of mongers, most of whom have some kind of death wish, and many of whom are strung out on pussy, booze, cigarettes, and god knows what?
"Unisom" = "Sominex" = doxylamine = nothing of any consequence so if you try anything like Ambien or Xanax and you really have severe insomnia, you could easily get habituated, addicted, or even strung out.
Insomnia is a pretty serious and complex medical condition from which I, too, have suffered for years, although mine is (thankfully) intermittent. I used to be dead set against taking anything for it. Now, if I have trouble three nights in a row, I use Ambien in a low dose (half a pill) but I never allow myself to take it two nights in a row. The issue I have with Ambien is I always wake up after five hours, six at most. The answer is the time-release Ambien but that is unavailable in Argentina as far as I know. Plus you can't split or divide time-release pills with reliable results.
For "knock out drops," like for sleeping on planes or if your roommate brings home a real loud, moaning screamer, I like 1/3 of an Ambien plus a low dose of Xanax, maybe 0.3 mg. I weigh 72 kg so adjust your dose for that.
But if you have insomnia all the time, you need a different solution. In my case if I use drugs I can break the cycle. No sleeping pill is safe for "regular consumption" in my opinion. Look at exercise, look at your mattress. One thing I espouse as doctrine is: never do anything in bed except fuck or sleep. Don't read in bed, don't eat in bed, don't talk on the phone in bed, and especially don't watch TV in bed. Don't even have a TV in your bedroom.
Insomnia is terrible and I have it right now or I would not be posting. What really helps me is regular marijuana use but the weed here really sucks so it's hard to motivate myself to find it. In fact my insomnia first appeared as a serious issue when I found myself stuck with a job in small town rural America and no weed to be had.
A friend with weed is a friend indeed!

A friend with weed is a friend indeed!Agreed, it can be a bear of a problem and decent sleep is essential. I have it sporadically, and use medicine infrequently, but when I really need to sleep I want the meds on hand. In my experience the non addictive meds are close to useless (no surprise there) I use Ambien at 10mg, and I have used Restoril at 15mg. Those are "normal" doses for most people. On the other hand, if I want to insure that I sleep well, and decrease the chance of waking up in the middle of the night, I'll go with Xanax, or better yet, Klonopin. Klonopin is the only thing that works at all for me on a plane. All of these meds are addictive with Xanax and Klonopin very addictive, though the risk factor involves the individual as well. Another med to consider is Halcion. A pretty effective sleeper that got a bad rap after the elder Bush took a header, or puked, or whatever, while using it in Japan years ago. At the right dose it is effective and not any more dangerous than the meds mentioned above.
I wouldn't have been in dire need of a sleeper recently but Daddy Rulz apparently got into my luggage on a recent flight out of NYC and swiped all my meds and toiletries.

Halicon is what I get when I go to the dentist. They demand on keeping a heart monitor on for the procedure.
I would be careful with that one, its powerful.
I have serious insomnia when I am in BA, not so much elsewhere. Must be the water.

Dogg, I don't know if you can get it in BsAs but I went from Ambien to Lunesta and found it works better for me. I work a lot of nights and have to sleep during the day, so I've tried a lot of sleep products but Lunesta works best for me.

Just ask your friendly neighborhood pharmacy.
Venezuela and San Juan. (I think?)
Anyway, you can buy just about anything and you even get a large discount without asking!
Xanax, Valium, Soma, Ambien, The Day After Pill!
Steroids, Growth Hormone, Viagra, etc, etc.
It's either San Juan or San Jose? Which ever one crosses Venezuela. It's on the corner.
About 4 blocks from Cuba Mia.
To hell with the addictive qualities of Ambien, etc.
A beautiful, complete night's rest in 4th. Level R. E. M sleep is priceless!
Better than a complete Paraguayan on a deserted island!

Just because it doesn't have as big of a name as the others doesn't mean it might not be as good, or better. They probably don't have as much marketing muscle behind it.

I stand corrected!
Pharmacia Santa Rosa is the place to be.
Home delivery too!
Bring them the name of the actual compound. Not the name brand of the drug.
I bought some viagra for my father and it was like three for 15 pesos.
Quick and friendly service for the most part.
They will sell you almost anything.
No dice on Rohypnol. A devastatingly powerful sleeper!
Wake-up 2 days later with your house sold!
20 years in a US prison just for having the wrapper in your possesion!
It gives you 15 minutes to find a place to pass out.
Take Care,
TL
I stopped by Frarmacy Santa Rosa yesterday, and it was easy as cake. Ask for the english speaking older guy, got 60 10mg valiums for 45 pesos. Unbelievable. He even asked me if I needed any other drugs. Too bad Argentina doesnt have perscription high grade marijuana like back home in California!

Weather you can get a dr to write that I don't know.Sometimes you can go into a clinica and say that you are a traveling around South America for a few months and ran out of medicine. You might need to go through a quick consultation or check up with a doctor.
Does anyone know of any clinics that are good for getting scripts? I wouldn't mind picking up my customary 100 xanax pills.
Thanks
What is the going price for Xanax or Ambien?
Thanx
What is the going price for Xanax or Ambien?
ThanxI picked up Xanax (Phizer brand) at a family owned farmacia on Santa Fe and Austria for *around $30 US for each pack of 20. I did however have an empty prescription bottle to prove my point.
There are generic brands qouted for much less but I stick to name brands since the price is right.
Usually the family owned "non chain" places are where to go. It has been posted previously that old men will usually fill your order without a script. A local also verified this for me.
RP Pharmacy, Corrientes+Suipacha. Price? No presciption necessary.Any update on this info request? I am heading down to BA for my second (and long overdue) mongering trip and prefer cialis to viagra. Plan to get it down in BA if the price and ease of getting it are easier than via the web route or friend of a friend connection.

I just went to Pharmacia Santa Rosa and paid $36 pesos for a tooth brush and 30 1mg Xanax (pfizer) I guess the Xanax was probably $30 pesos then. There was no one that spoke English and they asked me for a prescription a couple times. I just said que and no Espanol and they brought it out.
For xanax go to pharmacy and ask for gador alprazolam 2mg. Its the strongest xanax you have ever done. Or ask for Denver Farma Alprazolam 2 mg
Went by Santa Rosa today after many years as a happy customer: closed, and looks permanent.
Anyone got alternative suggestions for getting meds from a place with a reasonable attitude towards not having an actual prescription?
There's one on the corner of Tacuarí and Moreno in Microcentro where I've just walked in and bought both Tramadol and Cialis as if they were M&Ms.

Thanks,I refilled a USA Prescription last month at a Farmacity branch on Santa Fe near to Callao. I showed the pharmacy clerk my empty pill bottle and explained that I left the contents back in the states. She looked the drug up on her computer and handed me a card of 30 pills with the same generic name and dosage as shown on my prescription label. I was out the door in less than 5 minutes.
The pharmacy I went to is on the north side of Santa Fe around the 2000 block, give or take a couple of cross streets. But I think any Farmacity branch in the city could have refilled my prescription.

GV.That's Amazing!
Farmashitty won't even sell you an aspirin without a script! They are the hardest pharmacy to deal with by far.
You must have asked for some meds that are over the counter in this country because they won't bend the rules for anybody.
As for the other pharmacies you just have to keep asking until you find one that will give you what you want.
The easy stuff is the Viagra and Test, ect. Etc.
The Benzos are a lot harder to find.
Unless you.
Forget it.

This is not the case anymore; Farmacity will actually sell you any drug that does not have a reasonable expectation of being abused. They will sell you any antibiotic with no questions asked whatsoever. I'm not sure about "performance enhancers" as I'm too young for those still. One thing to note, if you have health insurance here you will not be able to take advantage of the 40% discount on pharmaceuticals if you buy them without a prescription.

You should not have any problems getting your meds.

You most likely will not need a prescription, but bring one or an old one to show in case.

Joe.Hey Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand?
A lot of drugs, script drugs are readily available in certain pharmacies all over town. Some require a script and some don't.
Test gel is no problem.
Thyroid meds should not be a problem.
Statin Meds. No problem.
Generics are super cheap.
Farma City, a huge Pharmacy Chain is not the best place for most things because they require scripts for some of your meds.
Feel free to PM me for any other Special needs.
BA is a beautiful city, the Paris of the South but try to do your research before you arrive to make your stay a safer and more economical adventure.
Spanish helps a lot to reduce your expenditures and enhance your pleasure.
There are a lot of tiny and easy to bring items that will pay for your flight, Chicas and even your apartment rental; specially now that Christina has imposed such harsh import duties and extreme measures to curb Foreign trade and capital flight.
