Ive gone to this restaurant in Puerto Madero many times. Ive heard that there is a also branch in Palermo but cannot confirm.

I generally don't like buffet restaurants, but Argentine buffet is another story. This place is entirely self service (except drinks). Very high quality food and location. It has one of the most extensive salad, soup, paella, fiambre bars Ive ever seen. And this is all high grade, fresh Italian/Argentine/Spanish food, unlike that shithole Chinese-run cockroach buffet called Grants.

There two "short order" bars - one for meat and another for pasta. Most of the meat is rotating on spits and is ready when you go up but occasionally you have to wait a few minutes is something isnt done yet. Carre, pechito, bife de chorizo, vacio, its all there. The pastas are made to order. You choose your pasta and sauce and they boil the pasta and also prepare the salsa in about 5 minutes.

I've gone to this restaurant in Puerto Madero many times. Ive heard that there is a also branch in Palermo but cannot confirm.I'm going to BA in a couple of weeks, so if you have an address and pricing, I'd really appreciate it. I actually like Grants a lot, so this one sounds quite interesting.

After going to Rio buffets that people raved about (and had moderate carnes at best) I'd be happy to find some more great BA ones!

JC,

I don't have the address on hand but its on the south end of Puerto Madero (almost at the end, towards the casino) right next to the cinema. A taxi driver will get you there no problem. Lunch with a couple glasses of wine runs about p40. It is much better (and cleaner) than Grants...its simply in a different league.

For the next two weeks you have to time your arrival right (very early or very late) at most good restaurants if you don't have reservations. Many places are full due to the holidays even midweek for lunch. Then after Jan. 1st, its just the opposite. Many places are like ghosttowns due to so many people being away on vacation. Some venues even close down completely for a couple of weeks in Jan.

My portena friend took me there once. La Bistecca's food is incredible! You need to bring at least 5 stomachs when go there. I found some pictures, I'd like to share with you all.

Oh, by the way, the receptionist is a stunningly beautiful babe, I hope she is still working there, has anyone ever noticed her?

As most of us know Dickheads worked in a million restaurants. When I suggested a tienador libre one day he said he avoids them. I asked why. His response made a lot of sense. He said he just didn't trust buffets in BsAs in general because he didn't think they paid close attention to how old food is. I've never been to this place and I'm sure it's just fine. I just don't ever walk into a buffet place without hearing his words. Just passing it along for what it's worth.

DaddyRulz,

I generally feel the same way about any buffet, but this place is an exception. Besides, its usually so full that most food is consumed long before it could ever get old. Unlike Grants, where you look at some of the items and wonder WHAT it is before thinking how old it is.

Second on this.

We can ususally tell when the food gets not so fresh. With the volume such as La Bistecca, food can never get so old.

There was a Bistecca in Palermo, now it's "la Parolaccia", an italian resaturant. Same owners, great food. I go there very very often.

I had lunch here today. The food was epic and the service was great as well.

Strad, I agree. The hostess was a knockout! I don't speak spanish and called Roxanna to see if she could call and get some information on her. Unfortunatly she has a boyfriend but was flattered by the call.

I hit La Bistecca for lunch a few days ago and am happy to report that nothing has changed. I hadn't been there for a while and it's still excellent. The midweek price was p20 which includes everything but drinks (Limoncelo included though). So with some wine, water, and coffee you're in the p30s. LB is one of my favorites and possibly the best value in BA.

Just came from lunch at La Bistecca. It is exactly as the previous posters have described - only I would avoid the Profiteroles for dessert, as the ice cream is very grade. Service was very good, unfortunately I had no room for the pasta bar - which looked very nice.

Beware for the Barrio Norte (and west) residents: the taxi ride is 10p, as this place is at the very end of Puerto Madero. So your 25p lunch + drink will really cost you 45p - if you elect to use a taxi. Normally I use the Subte and walk (which you can use after a meal like that) but today I was pressed for time.

For those residing in or around San Telmo, etc. You have a real winner!
