Can someone tell me if this is a nice area in buenos aires to stay in. Its called palermo_las_canitas. Thanks.Nice area and as stated its got it's own vibe with restos and some bars. Place was happening last night around 1am. But for my money not far away is Palermo Viejo - which they've stupidly now started calling Palermo SoHo and Palermo Hollywood - good god, can't they just come up with their own monikers. But I love SoHo. My favorite in BA, quiet, good restos, bars and always a lot of action. But it's not walking distances to the Recoleta scene nor micro center. But in my opinion, that's a good thing!
But for my money not far away is Palermo Viejo - which they've stupidly now started calling Palermo SoHo and Palermo Hollywood - good god, can't they just come up with their own monikers. I was reading a local blog not long ago, and somebody posted that at least one Palermo "area" should be named "Palermo Asshole".:)
Can someone tell me if this is a nice area in buenos aires to stay in. Its called palermo_las_canitas. Thanks.Las Canitas is a great area, and I don't find it noisy at all. Of course living on a main street in just about any neighborhood can be noisy but all the side streets are very calm quiet and picturesque. A great area if you like upper class neighborhoods that arent too " touristy ".
The rest of Palermo is nice as well, though all the funny names can be quite confusing. I never know if I am in Palermo Viejo, Barrio Norte, Palermo Soho, Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Nuevo, or in just plain Palermo. But all these neighborhoods are nice, just stay away from the train tracks along Godoy Cruz, they are basically abandoned warehouses.
You should have a great time in Las Canitas, and if you are in the neighborhood take a late night walk to La Imprenta, and stop by Persicco for some late night ice cream. It is loaded with fine college girls that I have found are quite easy to pick up.

. All the funny names can be quite confusing. I never know if I am in Palermo Viejo, Barrio Norte, Palermo Soho, Palermo Hollywood, Palermo Nuevo, or in Just plain Palermo.Exactly. And don't forget the latest Iheard: Palermo Queens.
I was reading a local blog not long ago, and somebody posted that at least one Palermo "area" should be named "Palermo Asshole".Yeah. That would be great. Then when someone asks you, "so, where's your place in BsAs?" Simply state, Palermo Asshole.
Palermo is the biggest of all the "barrios" of BsAs. As such they're trying to slide and dice it, but as I noted, they coulda been more creative and more to themselves rather than trying to be someone else.
Can someone tell me if this is a nice area in buenos aires to stay in. Its called palermo_las_canitas. Thanks.I was there last night looking for a sushi place. So-so area but just too far away from all the action.
Carlos
This segmentation of Palermo into groovy, hip named areas is nothing more than marketing by the real estate industry and assisted by the tourist agencies. C'mon! Soho, Hollywood etc. Soon, there will be a Palermo Tribeca and Palermo Chelsea.
I actually read somewhere that they tried a Palermo Brooklyn, but it didn't quite pan out. The same thing happens in Southern California, they keep splitting cities up and renaming areas just to be able to push up the real estate prices. Realtors do this everywhere, But Palermo, Palermo Viejo, Palermo Nuevo, Las Canitas and La Imprenta are all quite original (taking into account the actual city was named after the initial land developer whose surname was Palermo and not the Italian city) though I agree Palermo SoHo and Hollywood are not.
But I doubt Argentines are the only ones that bite, Has anyone ever been to Venice Florida? Maybe Naples Florida? Or how about St. Petersburg Florida? Lack of originality no doubt, but they aren't the only ones, this is just typical greedy realtor bullshit.
Bad.
BTW, I personally find Palermo and Barrio Norte to be the best places to live in Buenos Aires. NOTE, I said LIVE, if you are a tourist here for 5 days and you just want to be close to the ***** houses, clubs, other tourists and national monuments you might want to stick with the center and Recoleta.

Palermo it's the bigger neighborhood in Buenos Aires. Portenos (the inhabbitants of Buenos Aires City) divided it unofficialy into different palermos;
Palermo Las Canitas, the most exclusive and beutiful side of Palermo, and even inside of this sub-neighborhood, there is "La Imprenta" a couple of city blocks, with axe in migueletes and maure streets. Las Canitas remarks: It's an area with lots of nice restaurants, parrillas (argentinean beef) sushi, specialized / ethnical restaurants (thai, mexican, greek, lyrical, custom, international, chinese, italian, french, german, etc) Modern buildings, nice cars on the streets, upscale people, in general it's quiet especially during daylights closer main avenues are libertador ave and Luis Maria Campos. El solar de la abadia shopping mall has also cinema, food court and cloth as any shopping mall. Outdoors close to Las Canitas: Golf course, polo fields, race tracks, palermo lakes, bosques de palermo (crossing libertador ave) Interesting is in the fields of this fair, a big hotel + apartments complex will be built.
Palermo Embassy, limits with belgrano, palermo hollywood, palermo las canitas, remarks: it's a quiet neighborhood with big mansions now many institutions and consulates and embassies (Germany embassy it's at least 30 acres) australian consulate, European Union headquarters, italian labour house, and many other embassies. Main axe for shops it's cabildo ave, subway stations are there over cabildo ave. Basically the military war accademy and hospital divides palermo embassy from las canitas.
Palermo Hollywood, this takes the name of "hollywood" since several TV studios are around, like channel 9, channel 2, radio stations, and production companies. This made possible for nice restaurants to establish there their business. There are lots of nice and fancy restaurants in Palermo Hollywood plus 4 new towers will be built by the next year. Anyways, the remaining poor houses taken by force generally by illegal immigrants makes the scene not so nice like in palermo embassy, las canitas or palermo soho.
Palermo Nuevo, stands for "new palermo" because this part of town used to be abandoned a few decades ago, now everything there it's 12 years or younger, towers, buildings, banks, restaurants. It's a small part of palermo, but full of life and nice houses and shops. The US embassy, consulate and "la rural" fair it's in palermo nuevo. Plaza Italia it's the axe of Palermo Nuevo, On the right we find the access to the botanical garden. Facing across las heras avenue, is the main entrance to the zoo and the opposite side of sarmiento's avenue, there is a big exhibitions than take place there are the buenos aires book fair, ARTEBA an important fair of the art galleries and the rural exhibition an extremely interesting agricultural and livestork exhibition. Sarmiento's avenue ends right in the middle if italy park if we walk 656 gards we will bump into the spaniards monument and beyond it, the palermo forest.
Bosques de Palermo, no one lives in bosques de palermo because this large extension of green and parks + artificial lakes it's called bosques de palermo. ZOO: the main entrance is at the las heras and sarmiento arcade. Upon arrival was encounter a panoramic view of the darwin lake, set in a romantic landscape of the 19th century. The ruins we notice on the isle of this lake, are made of aunthentic byzantine marble, brought from trieste in 1910, the elephant palace is a beautiful indian fantasy, japanese pagodas and roman shrines complete a didactic imaginary stroll, there is awide variety of species as well an aquarium and snake exhibition. GALILEO GALILEI PLANETARIUM: this building has a theather that sits 360 people it is properly equipped and it is valued ceiling for scientific events and shows a valuable metallic meteorites are exibited on the entrance esplanade it fell on the province of chaco in 1965, the planetarium is located on the corner of sarmiento avenue and be. Roldan street. THE ROSE GARDEN: you may get to the rose garden eigther walking along an avenue sorrounded by flowerbeds or crossing a bridge upon the lake. There are many interesting spots in the rose gardens, such as the poet's corner, the andalucien patio. SIVORI MUSEUM: it is an important museun of argentinean painting, sculpture engraving and illustration from the 19th and 20th centuries, it's huge collection is only partly exibited in this newly opened branch at Av. De la infanta 555. Opening time: Tuesday through Friday 12 to 6 pm.
Palermo Soho, ironically, the center of palermo soho it's the old palermo square "plaza palermo viejo", once a year they organize a very relaxed and easy going activity (buen dia festival) in December, and this is the video of buen dia festival and it's surounded by designer shops, tailors, caffes, restaurants and it's a very nice place in town, there is so much life, mainly attracted by the axe, plaza cortazar.
Palermo Viejo, the old palermo, there is almost no action here since this is a residencial neighborhood, however, nice old houses and unique architecture is findable here.
Alto Palermo, lands are a little bit higher here in alto palermo, axe of this area it's the "alto palermo" shopping located in Santa Fe and Coronel Diaz. Boulevard charcas it's one of few boulevards in town and has lots of small caffes.
Palermo Botanico, next to the gardens this is also a residencial area with no many kiosks and restaurants like the others, but it's a great area to explore:
EVITA MUSEUM: this neo colonial palace houses a museum that in an entertaining and didactic way tells the life and work of Eva peron, and of the most important and influential of the 20th century, there are dress collections, archive, the library and archive files of the eva peron institutes that operates there are also available for consultations in the museum patio there is a cury bar and restaurant. Opening hours: Tuesday to Friday from 2 pm to 7.30 pm-lafinur 2988.
THE BOTANICAL GARDEN: designed by the famous landscape designer carlos thays it was inaugurated in 1902. The main entrance is at the corner of santa fe and las heras avenue. From there on you may walk through the main landscape route to the large greenhouse, a building that received an award in the international exhibitions of paris, besides it lies a brick building now the excursion office. Several sculptures decorate this area and among them, stands at andina del plata the sculptor lucio correa morales, open Tuesday to Sunday at 10am.
Barrio Parque, the most exclusive part of Buenos Aires, also known as "palermo chico", concentrate large mansions as well as residences and embassies like greece, bangladesh, spain and others. The area layout was designed by carlos thays and it was build in 1912, if we move forward through libertador avenue leaving behind the decorative arte museum;once we've crossed the avenue, we will arrive at on ancient grove area. Among which we find residences and aristocratic palaces, many of them, such as embassy of spain, belgium and portugal. Turning of moriscal castilla street and just one an block further we will see the grandbourg house. A reproduction of the place where general san martin lived his last years. Directly across the street we can see the house that belonged to victoria ocampo, an internationally well known intellectual that acted as patron. Figures such as stranvinsky stayed at another house.
Palermo QUEEN (not queens) actually is not Palermo, but an area of Villa Crespo that limits to Palermo Viejo.

Las canitas is a paceful neighborhood during the day, classy, with gorgeous women around. The fucking colectivos (buses) they don't drive inside of las canitas (with the exeption of the 64 by matienzo and migueletes every 20 minutes) as well as trendy and fashionable during certain nights. Streets are not that dirty like in downtown, there are banks, grocery stores, supermarkets, locutorios, laundrys, cabs, and a big concentration of good quality non-overpriced restaurants, from steak, thai, japanese, italian, northen-argentinean, cheap, classy, etc, etc.
The best way to get either downtown, recoleta, tigre, olivos, san telmo, la boca, etc it's take libertador ave.
The race tracks and casino are just crossing this street, as well as the golf course, the lakes, tennis lawn, and the parks.
Las canitas is one of the safer neighborhoods in BA, because the militar installations are in or around, at least the 30% of the traditional population of las canitas is related to the army, so this makes not attractive place for delinquents as well as the police takes care of the inhabbitants of las canitas / la imprenta because many actors, actresses, politicians live there.
Great Post MCSE,
Very informative for all the newbies. I guess you really know what you're talking about.
BTW, did I mention Hollywood Florida:D?
Bad
Oh yeah, we also forgot Palermo Chico;)
Thanks BadBoy, Well, I think it's like a traditional thing to give names to new places reffering to old places, what about NEW York? New Jersey? New Orleans? New Hampshire? Little Havana? Little Italy in NY?
It sounds perfect for me. Nice area upscale with plenty of great restaurants. But according to you guys I have to leave that area to pickup upscale working girls? I don't mean street walkers) But can't I just dial a telephone number and a upscale one will come to me? Point being this. I will be going to beunos Aires in a couple of months. Would like to stay in upscale area. But kind of away from the heavy action if you will. But would still like to spend some time with a or a couple upscale women while I'm there. Is this making sense to you guys? I'm being serious. Found nice studio apartment there to rent. Fully furnished. Looks like really nice building also. Price is 400 a week I consider that a deal. Duplex one bedroom apartment located on the Baez st at the happening and vibrant Las Canitas area of BA) Is what it says. Also seen pics.
Thanks BadBoy, Well, I think it's like a traditional thing to give names to new places reffering to old places, what about NEW York? New Jersey? New Orleans? New Hampshire? Little Havana? Little Italy in NY?That was when a New Continent was in the process of being inhabited and the people were coming from old Amsterdam, old Hamburg, or big Italy, or more recently big Havana.
If a new continent was found or if there was an exodus of actors from LA to BA or of autoworkers to Antartica I would understand the name of Palermo Hollywood or New Detroit.
You can always get take out Sig,
Just call up the girls on Platynum or Area VIP and have them come to your place. Two very important points here. First, girls that do take out can generally charge you between 50-100 AR more just to come to your place, or they might just charge you the " viatico " aka the taxi fare. So it depends on your convenience, you can spent between 20-30 pesos on a taxi and go to her place or pay 50-100 pesos more and have her come to you. Second, and probably even MORE important. Whenever you bring a girl to your apartment make sure your valuables are locked away in a safe, that means your wallet, passport, money and watch. Only have the girls money out and maybe an extra 100-200 pesos just in case you like her and want to negociate for more time, but nothing else.
Usually upperclass girls aren't the type that would do things but you never know, so be careful and try to stay away from bum ass women. Also, just to let you know Madahos is about a 10 peso taxi ride away, you can pick a girl up and bring her back to your place as well.
I am not sure what your type is but if you are looking for " upperclass " girls, try to stick with Platynum, Area VIP and Madahos. Be prepared to pay between 200-400 AR. But you can always negociate.
Take care and have fun in Las Canitas,
Bad
PS, I guess Naples Florida experienced a huge " exodus ", maybe Hollywood Florida as well;)
I just came from that apartment. The one with Luciana on board. I ordered out each time because I didn't have time to go wondering and waiting. The neighborhood is great. Damn good restaurants (try the one on the corner at 301 Baez) lots to look at, plentiy of farmacia to get vitamin v. Its just a bit of a txi ride to anything, but quiet and safe. I had the owner of the apt help me once or twice and Roxana help as wel (see my report on AYI) PM me if you want more on that apt.

[.]they are copying and not being creative OR original. Pointless justifications don't really mean much [.] I personally think it is ALL unoriginal. [.] be ORIGINAL [.] Right on Badboy.
Exactly. I mean do you wanna be yourself or someone else. To much copying and homogenizing in this world already. IMHO BsAs is a great city and can have an identity of its own without trying to prove it with a naming scheme that is stupid and lacks creativity and orginality.
Ya I click on a link on top of this page and seen that apartment it looked nice. I also found another link that has a huge amount of apartments to rent also. http://www.vrbo.com/vacation-rentals/south-america/argentina#11 I'm trying to click through all of those.

PS, I guess Naples Florida experienced a huge " exodus ", maybe Hollywood Florida as well;)To answer your question what kind of a women am I looking for. One who is disease free, Nice to look at, Not over weight little overweight is ok 5 to 10 pounds. Finally between the ages of 25-40. I'm 43 so I have no problem with a women who is in her 30's if it means cheaper finacially speaking. I'm just assuming the younger women probably charge the most. Younger being defind as OVER 18. Ps. How much in American Dollars should i be willing to pay so i won't get ripped off.

How much in American Dollars should I be willing to pay so I won't get ripped off.Well from what you are saying, it sounds like you should probably stick with Area Vip and Madahos. You can also find some choice stuff in other clubs and on other websites but the top end girls are usually on Area and Platynum and Madahos. What should you expect to pay? I would say between 200-400 AR on Area, 200-300 or Platynum and 300 AR at Madahos, or somwhere between $75-$135 US. I personally think this is a fair price for the quality of girl you can get.
As far as how much you should pay to not get ripped off? No one on this board will be able to answer that because there is no answer. You pay what you feel comfortable paying, I will just give you the average prices at all the websites and clubs I mentioned. Some guys will tell you to never pay over 100 AR or $35 dollars, some will say 150 AR or $50 dollars. I say pay what you want, just try to pay what local board members pay and no more, because even though you are a tourist doesn't mean you have to pay tourist prices for pussy. Stay away from the girls that have questionable pricing policies, they will smell tourist on you and charge you double what they charge the locals and that to me is a rip off. The board is here so you can avoid that pitfall. Read the reviews, if you know some spanish check the local boards and at the end of your visit write some good reports.
Hope you have fun,
Bad
