Some friends are in town for New Years Eve, a younger couple. Since my party days are over, can anyone recommend a place for them to celebrate? Is the Alamo planning something? The larger Hotels? Restaurants? I have been asked for a recommendation but haven't celebrated New Years Eve for some time.
Thanks

If not we should all go celebrate at BLACK!

It seems most major restaurants in Capital that are open have a New Years Eve package; usually you can't get in that night unless you reserved a place for their dinner party.
Off the top of my head I'd recommend Estilo Campo for a couple.
For going out in BsAs New Years Eve is basically the dullest night of the year without a date and reservations.

Thomaso-send your friends to some superficial, expensive joint in Puerto Madero, full of snide assholes, all pretending to have a good time. Or, if you like your friends, don't do that. Maybe Newport.;)
Last year I didn't even bother to go out for New Year's.
We made the mistake of going out to Puerto Cristal in Puerto Madero for last year's Christmas Eve. We made reservations a couple of weeks ahead of time. We got there and the place was packed (expected) The place had set special menus (with three items to choose from) that were obviously catered by some other place because the food sucked (not expected) It was priced more than twice what their prices normally are (not expected in relation to the poor food we got)
I'm sure that New Years is the same idea (get as many people in as possible and charge as much as possible for not-standard-quality food) and I would never repeat what we did last year again.
I don't know if it makes much difference between Puerto Madero and other places in the city for a night when you are looking at package deals like that, but definitely don't waste time and money on Puerto Madero.

Anywhere you go on X-mas Eve or New Year's Eve will be expensive and packed.
Your dinner choices will be limited to a fixed menu. Rarely worth a shit!
La Chacra next to my place will probably be about $390.00 pesos per idiot!
Puerto Madero will be even more expensive and there is a place in Recoleta that will be around $440.00 pesos per idiot!
Makes me mad enough to try to open up and at least have a nice dinner party for the boys!
I think we were like $120.00 last year ()
Always too cheap, but always an excellent meal and deal.
Of course the SERVICE ALWAYS SUCKED!
But hey, we are accustomed to shitty service in BA!
Trying to open,
TL
No kidding,
The Tango place in Puerto Madero was charging like $ 600 pesos per person for dinner, champagne and a show last year.
The food isn't always bad, but there is a fixed menu with few options. But $ 600 pesos for a steak dinner, some champagne and a tango show is just a tad too much, though it's comparable to USA prices (I hate being charge $ 300 dollars for a champagne dinner and then we get a bottle of Mumms. SMFH. Oh well.)

BM.
PS. We are all impatiently waiting your reopening TL, every time I hang out with any AP members, one of the topics of discussion is usually "when is L'alliance going to open again? ".

This place is one of the worst restaurants in BsAs. I have no idea how they stay in business. Probably stupid tourists who see their regular ad in the Herald.
Greetings,
For those of you who are not familiar with the phenomenon, BA essentially shuts down on New Year's Eve beginning at approximately 6 pm, and remains a "ghost town" until sometime during the middle of the next day, when things gradually begin to return to normal. During this time all the clubs, boliches, restaurants, coffee shops and privados will be closed, and none of the internet escorts will working.
During this 18 hour period, the vast majority of Argentines will be attending an obligatory midnight dinner with their family, an event that even the most hardened working girl will find difficult to avoid. To make things worse, most Paraguayan chicks will have traveled back to Paraguay to visit relatives for the holidays.
If you are a visitor and / or unattached guy, you have limited options:
1. You can stay in your apartment or hotel room and watch TV.
2. You can try to convince a favorita to hang with you for the evening, usually at a perversely ridiculous price.
3. You can pay between 200-600 pesos to attend one of the commercially motivated parties put on by some of the bigger hotels and discos, where you will be served mediocre food and cheap champagne.
4. You can get yourself invited to a private party (http://www.argentinaprivate.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5193).
Thanks,
Jackson
I wish I could be there for the party. More power to you guys. Best wishes for a happy (and better) New Year.

The price the other night was 740 pesos for dinner, wine, champagne, show and transport.
It is a number of years since I have dined at a restaurant and not been able to fault the meal. In terms of tango, it was in my opinion unique. The standing of singing and music was also high. The setting is awesome. I will not preach to the converted or argue publicly at length why it is worth more than the good number of BsAs tango shows I have seen all put together. My concierge was fascinated that I was prepared to pay so much (and also wait - it was sold out in advance) I just told him save up and go at any cost. :):):)
