Please excuse me in advance, as I am fairly new to the computer. I have visited BA on four previous occasions and I have fallen in love with the city and the people. I am recently retired and recently single and I would like to relocate to BA for a month or two as a test run for a more lengthly stay. As far as cost of living, can someone give me an estimate on the monthly cost of a micro-center (or in-town) apartment, eating out four or five times a week, four or five chicas a week, a few cocktails, health insurance, groceries, gym membership, regular bills, etc. (without a car) I know these are vague details, but I'm trying to get a basic idea on overall cost. Just a range, please. Though I'm not looking to live high-on-the-hog, I want to enjoy myself without pinching pennies.

This is a great site and an informative service. Thanks Jackson!

Thanks, Latuna

Apartment short term 800 to 1200 dollar.

Eating out: In a shopping around 8 dollar, restaurant from 20 to 40 dollar a person.

Chicas: average price 150 peso a chica?

Coctails: Normally around 6 to 10 dollar.

Groceries: Around 200 to 300 dollar a month.

Health insurance in Argentina: 300 dollar a month?

Gym: 30 dollar a month.

Regular bills: If you rent a short term appartment all bills are included.

Public transport is cheap, probally around 50 dollar a month and if you take taxi's everywhere it would cost you from 500 to 800 dollar a month.

I would say atleast 2000 dollar and up to 3000/3500 dollar

Mongers,

I will be in be's A's for a week and would like to know if 3,000 pesos is enough for my pussy allowance. Considering I have a 2,000 peso beer and food credit as well.

Do you know Joe Fernandez? With proper "Sperm Management" you should be fine. $ 3,000 peso's would equal 10 premium experiences. 15 sessions at Gysell's at her standard rate or if you go after 10 pm and ask for the "Winter Promotion" at $150 peso's you'd get 20 experiences.

Or in my case $3,000 peso's would buy me 30 premium "Hand Jobs"

Interesting article about current food prices in argentina and around the world.

I had no idea it was so bad. http://www.yahoo.com/_ylt=AujQBuuju3MAjmmDb1KmHiObvZx4;_ylu=X3oDMTJwMDA3N3MxBGNwb3MDNQRlZAMxBGcDMDkxOTk5ZDc2MzhhNmVkYjY5ZmU4YzllNTdmMzI4ZmYEaW50bAN1cwRzZWMDaW5fbmV3cwRzbGsDbndzLXRpdGxlBHRlc3QDNzAx/SIG=121tbp6e6/**http%3A//news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100606/ap_on_he_me/going_hungry

Particularly like the item in the article about how the bean counters dictate production quotas and what can be produced and cannot be produced. The sector / government has put all their eggs all in one basket, soy, and their biggest customer and cash cow China has told Argentina to go pound sand. The Chinese have an embargo on Argentine soy because of their protectionist practices. The Argentines have a gazillion acres tied up in a commodity that has no market. These people could wreck a cannon ball. Argentina cannot feed itself? The wheels have fallen off the bus.

Here's the latest on inflation in Argentina. Still going strong:

BUENOS AIRES (Dow Jones)--Argentina reported a steep rise in the November consumer price index, although the government figures continue to fuel scepticism among economists who say prices are actually rising at least twice the official rate.

Argentina's consumer price index in the capital Buenos Aires, used as a measure of nationwide inflation, jumped 0.7% on the month in November, bringing the rate over the past 12 months to 11%, the national statistics agency, Indec, reported Wednesday. Prices for clothing, appliances, medical care and food and drinks posted the largest gains.

Economists had expected the government to report 0.8% month-on-month inflation in November, which would have put the annual inflation rate at 11.1%, unchanged from October.

But estimates for the actual pace of price gains point to runaway inflation.

The credibility of Indec's inflation data has been called into question since former President Nestor Kirchner made personnel changes at the agency in 2007, which led to a sharp divergence between government data and private-sector estimates. The government of President Cristina Fernandez, Kirchner's wife, regularly denies charges that it manipulates Indec data.

Most private-sector economists say inflation is running well above 20% thanks to elevated government spending, hefty wage increases negotiated by unions amid an economic boom, and the central bank's decision to expand the money supply.

Local think tank Buenos Aires City--run by Indec's former CPI director, Graciela Bevacqua, who was purged by Kirchner--said in a report that consumer prices rose 1.3% in November, bringing the annual inflation rate to 25.6% due to rising prices for food and beverages.

Joaquin Ledesma & Asociados economic consultancy pegged the November price gain at 1.5% from October and 23% from a year earlier.

In a move interpreted as a concession to placate critics, the Fernandez administration last month invited the International Monetary Fund to help Indec build a nationwide consumer price index. An IMF technical mission has already met with Argentine officials to discuss the project.

However, the implementation of a national CPI is widely expected to be a drawn-out affair as the government is unlikely to make changes to the current Buenos Aires CPI to avoid legal problems. The government's inflation-linked bonds are indirectly linked to Indec's CPI and the chronic underreporting of inflation has short-changed investors, analysts say.

At the same time, the IMF will demand strong assurances about the integrity of the new CPI before putting its stamp of approval on the project.

"We do not expect to see major changes in inflation reporting in Argentina before the October 2011 elections," Goldman Sachs said in a note.

Somebody needs to verify my numbers but I think the taxi pick up charge night time rate went from 13.70 pesos to 15.20 pesos yesterday. My ride to Hook went from 18 pesos average over the last two weeks to 22 pesos.

Thats what we have been saying. Argentina has gone from a cheap third world shit hole where you could have a good time to a expensive third world shit hole where the government doesn't want you to have good time anymore. Before you could over look a few inconveniences because the price was so cheap. Now it would be cheaper to go home and at least have normal conveniences.

My normal after midnight Friday or Saturday taxi ride to my apartment was more expensive, and the driver did not take a convoluted route. I was wondering about paying more, and you have explained it.

On the New Year's Eve in Los Angeles, I paid $350 bill for three people. Two of us had the traditional steak and lobster. One person had lobster only. Crab cakes and clam chowder as the appetizer. Grilled mushrooms as the side. Key lime pie for desert. Since it was New Year's Eve I gave the 20% tip. IN BA, you can buy a bottle of some very excellent wine for $6 to $8 dollars at the restaurant. I paid $10 a glass for Estancia Pinot Noir. BA expats have it made.

By comparison the exchange rate was about 3 p to the $1 USD. So my 1. 33 p pick up charge was about $0. 49 back then. With the 13.70 p pick up rate and a 2014 exchange rate of 7. 07 p to the $1 USD that means it cost $1. 93 USD to get picked up in 2014. What are the pick up rates in 2015 with the current 8. 60 p = $1 USD exchange rate?.

Cost of living?? Its more like the cost of slow death here. Some comparisons that I can remember. Comparing 2007 to today or lets use December.

Chop meat (carne picada) was 4. 50 a kilo, now anywhere from $40. To $75 pesos a kilo.

Tolls: Camino de Buen Aire was 2. 00 p now 25.00 p.

Diesel (gas oil) : was $1. 20 a liter now $11.50 and up.

Telefonica de Argentina. With calling plan to the US of A was 60 p every 2 months, now $150 pesos MONTHLY!

45 kilo tank of cooking gas. Was $45 p now over 400 p.

Parking: It used to be FREE! Now is around 18 to 20 p a hour.

Chicas: I remember going to the local boliche on a Friday, 200+ women. $20 p chica drinks, $10 p for a liter of Quilmes for guys. $100 p for the hour with room. I won't even comment on the prices I see fellow members are paying today. Enough to make one want to swear off sex.

For me inflation has far out paced the "Blue" , that is unless you believe what INDEC prints.

Enough to make one want to swear off sex.Let's not get carried away now. You can still find some pretty good looking girls for 500 p an hour. Not at night though. It's just the clubs and bars have become clip joints and tourist traps. The girls that go to those places are looking for english speaking guys to bilk. It's their entire M. O. And apparently it works.

I know, tourist traps for people thinking with their little heads. Actually there are plenty of girls around here for 300 to 400. But if I HAD to pay 1000 and up each time like some of you guys are talking about I would go back to sking or something else for my thrills.

I did find a 9. 88 early 30's one referred by my steady companion for 1,000 p that was absolutely worth it without any hesitation, In Las Vegas she would be $1,000 - $1500 USD for sure and was sexy as could be. Maybe the referral or the threesome helped to break the ice.

These prices were a very reasonable increase from my beginning trip there in 2003 from about $33 USD to now about 50 or so with the 1 Amazon exception t the higher price.

Like plucking from a tree absolutely an abundance of talent. Wish I could have kept with it. Did no go to Hook or any of the clubs, all Baires and the fore research.

I will hope to spend my later years there. Nothing like it here.

I just checked with my x neighbor and he says he is now paying around $150 for a one and half hour pass. Up from $100 the last time I was there. There are plenty of women, and I mean PLENTY in the $300 to $500 range. That puts your post of 500 to 600 in the same range. Some are absolutely gorgeous! The best part is, if you pick a bad one you did not waste a lot of pesos. Too many people are saying that $1.000p and up is or should be the norm. And then they try to rationalize what they are saying. Thats like saying Kicillof is a economic genius ! :-) But like I said people think with the little head not the big one!

My last time in Barbys in November 2013 was 400 pesos which included BBBJCIM (not universally available in my experience and my current favorite definitely will not do it with me at least). In 15 months they are now quoting 600 pesos according to some experienced Board members. Facilities have improved which is worth something in my opinion. I never minded spending a little extra at the now closed Cielo Private (Larrea 1062) because of the nice facility as a reference point.

Try Freemont street instead! A lot more fun and a few really good restaurants!I'm landlocked in the midwest but I do like the area you mentioned. After thinking it through I would be hesitant / cheap to even spend $300-$500 for shag. For me in BA the afternoon / evening of 500 P-600 P, with the current exchange rates, seems like a great deal. Thanks for your thoughtful comments.
