I am kind of surprised that there are no posts about today's news.

Today is like a monumental day.

Elena HightonI don't know what all the fuss is about, Argentina is not even the first latin American country who has done this and it was never really a problem to use it for personal use.

I don't know how to work out the details but if we would legalize and tax the sale of some of the so called 'street drugs' it would probably go a long way to.

1) Reducing crime and 2) help pay for a sensible health care system which,

God knows, we need.

Not to mention, we wouldn't need those seven bases in Colombia.

Wait, that might be the deal breaker.

Crime would basically vanish. Goodbye problems from AFG, MEX, VEN, ECU, BOL, CUBA, RD, more. But, the politicians seem to have a vested economic interest?

Elena HightonMexico, Amsterdam, etc:

It's legal to carry a certain amount of party favors in certain forward thinking countries.

This is what I know:

(4) joints.

(4) hits of X. Personal fave!

(2) grams of coke.

(4) hits of acid!

(2) grams of meth.

(1) gram of heroin!

ALL IN YOUR FUCKING POCKET!

WTF!

There is one country where you are allowed to carry a (10) days supply of cocaine!

They evaluate you to see what your daily consumption is and let you slide!

I'd rather shoot most addicts but if you legalize or decriminalize the shit maybe you can reduce crime, dependance and the over crowding of jails!

Mexico, Amsterdam, etc:I researched this topic and my conclusion is that it is not legal but mildly tolerated so it won't strain law enforcement resources. Basically a huge grey area / abyss.

The deal with mexico is they won't put you in jail if you are caught with I *believe is 20 grams or less. They will however give you 2 warnings then you must go through a drug rehabilitation program on the third strike.

Amsterdam has a different approach and sits in a completely different grey area than SA countries. Cafes are allowed to have and sell a certain amount on hand but they can't buy it nor can the supplier sell it to the cafes. How does is get there. Who knows:)

I have heard from a very reliable source that ARG is moving along the same lines or that there is already a law in the books. Whatever it is you will still need to deal with the police. I've heard bribes are very common in those situations even with the law. I still haven't seen the "law" in any written form.

Colombia is very similar. There are people getting stoned all over the place and sniffing glue on the corners. Although again you cannot sell or buy weed legally in colombia but one or two joints in your pocket is ok. How are you going to get those two joints in your pocket. Witchcraft?

IMHO none of it is legal nor will it be unless you can stand on a busy corner smoking a joint and nobody will bother you. I don't know anywhere in the world this could happen (minus NYC in the 70's). Not even jamaica! The people doing it in colombia are street people and young kids. There is no money in those two groups.

IMHO if you are a foreigner getting stoned in any of these places toss whatever you have just read out the window (minus Amsterdam) and consider yourself elegible for jail or bribery.

Notice that I didn't say 'abuse your rights' because when you are in another country, often times you have no rights. I am not a toker but I really don't care if others chose to partake (leaving out the moral arguments about how the leaf gets from the plant into your joint or where the money comes from and goes to) I have a chica friend who likes to spark up when with me (it probably helps to make time with me more tolerable) Whilst this occurs on the patio, high above street level, I am always a little disconcerted about the potential ramifications if something went terribly wrong.

If you would like to cure yourself of the hankering for a smoke while abroad, may I suggest viewing the National Geographic Channel's "Locked up Abroad."

When caught with a minor infraction that includes drugs, the officer has wide practical (not necessary legal) latitude in how to deal with you. You'd be lucky to get off with a bribe, but much much worse has resulted for others.

I was abducted in Mexico by (2) policemen as I was leaving the pharmacy with my LEGAL prescriptions in hand!

Thrown into the back of the police car and driven to a remote part of town without witnesses!

I showed them my perfectly legal copies of the prescriptions and they took them out of my hands and asked:

¨ What if? ¨ while making a tearing motion with their hands!

Holy Shit!

They proceeded to tell me that I would be taken to the jail and that they would perform some medical tests to see if I REALLY needed the medications!

If I did not really need the meds I was going to get about (6) years in a Mexican jail.

Here's the scene:

100 degrees.

Back seat of a MEXICAN POLICE CAR (no ac right!)

A sack full of Valiums, Xanax, Fat Burners and Rohypnols.

Prescription copies no longer in my possesion.

Super Freaked-Out!

Not even supposed to be out of Houston, Texas much less the USA!

Nobody knows I'm in Mexico!

W. W. TL. D?

My mind flashed for an IGNA-SECOND! (ignorant second)

I saw the grip of the pistol within arms reach because the squad car did not have a divider so I thought I'll grab the gun from his holster and kill both of these crooked cops and run back to the USA!

Like I said, it was an igna-second!

I kept saying that I had such little money and that my stash was legal and that I had spent all my money on the meds for about 20 hellish minutes.

Finally the driver asked me how much money I had that I considered so little.

I said $20.00 dollars and showed him the bill which he took from me and placed it on the seat beside him.

Then everythings cool as far as they are concerned, they drive me back to the pharmacy and tell me we should get together for a beer next time!

By FAR the worst feeling that I have EVER had in my life and I've had a bunch!

Cured my ass preety quick !

In the end they told me not to FLAUNT my goodies when I leave the pharmacy and life would be good!

So beware! Don't do ANYTHING ANYWHERE!

P. S - This applies to VIAGRA too!

P. S - This applies to VIAGRA too!I read up on prescriptions as well. You *need a legal prescription from a *mexican doctor. Your doctor in the states gives you one then you get one from a doctor in mexico.

People have been detained in mexico for having legal presciptions. What they didn't know is they don't count in mexico!

Psychotropic drugs like you mentioned are monitored very closely. More so than in the USA. If you board a plane with xanax in the US its cool. If they notice it in SA or mexico they ask you a few questions to see your response.

Officials in mexico are allowed to keep you for 48 hours regardless if you are wrong or right. All they need is enough suspicion.

You may have you may use but do not use in public areas as it is still at the descretion of the police if you are endangering others. Obviously not while driving but at least now you can not et arrested for smoking in your own home.
