I'm here in BA for a month I'm thinking of a four day trip to Mar Del Plata. Train or Bus that's the question. I'm in no hurry just looking for A nice scenic trip. Any advice.

I read this site every day and I have used your advice many times for that I say thanks.

Bus will be more comfortable and I do believe also quicker but I would personally take the bus even if it slightly slower.

I last made the trip about 4 years ago, but I lived there for three years before moving to BsAs. I'm normally a big fan of train travel, but on this route definitely take the bus. There are regular fast services from several companies at a good price compared to the train and they're more reliable and comfortable, also much quicker. Tried the train once and never again.

Mar del Plata is more spread out with less public transportation. And there are several beach areas and neighborhoods to explore only by car. Even going out at night I feel there's a need for a car just to see what's going on and where.

If you must take bus or train, I took the bus once and it was quite nice. I've never taken the train though I heard its pretty bad.

The trains leave a lot to be desired even thought they are adding new ones. The traffic, tolls and police traps often make the trip unpleasant by car.

I don't know if it will fit into the OP's plans but it's not bad. One drawback is it leaves and arrives at Constitution station which is in a wicked bad part of town, but then again so is the bus station. http://www.buenosairesherald.com/article/87566/new-luxury-bamar-del-plata-trains-unveiled.

Hmmm, that link is to a 'new' train from 2011 DR? In which case it's shocking. It was timetabled to take 5 hours (about the same as the buses), but averaged more like 10 hours. Sometimes being replaced in large parts, by a bus!

Trains in Argentina should be avoided, always!

Hotel occupancy today is only at 45% so you should not have a problem finding a place to stay.

Be aware that there are DWI and Speed Traps everywhere but if you have a GPS it will tell you where they are.

Zero scenery. Zip, none. Flat, ugly and boring. Take a bus. The long distance buses are very nice.

Leather seats, drinks, DVD players. Large seats. That's first class. Leave in the late afternoon and arrive ready to party if you'd like.

"La Casita Azul" -.

Normal looking house in a normal looking neighborhood.

Front yard with grass like back home.

You sit in the living room on a sofa while about 15 girls line up and dance for you while you are drinking your drink.

Then you pick a girl or two and you go back to one of the Rumpus Rooms.

It's a regular modest house.

No idea of the address or the cost.

Every cab driver and Cop knows where it is.

If it's still there you will have a Blast!

Do NOT tell them that you are an American and that you like and live near George Bush. Either of them!

Bad Idea! Imagine 8 to 1 and that was Not the currency exchange. But I never went down. My jaw hurt so bad that I could not walk! WOW!

Say that you are a Canadian or Australian. Hate Americans and Bush especially.

Hell, you might anyway!

Also, a LOT of the Chicas from BA go to Mar Del Plata to work the vacation scene.

They advertise as Escorts on the internet.

They usually have their own pad.

Be aware that their are TONS of wasted Argie Drivers!

Nice architecture, same shit food, maybe better fish but a lot of night life, Broadway type shows, et cetera.

This is almost the END of the summer vacation so there will be a lot less people.

But that's great!

Have Fun and Best of Luck!

Be happy to take you on a tour.
