Now for a narrative account of my visit:

I was in Orleans Cafe a few nights ago and an older Porteño told me of Croix. Sitting in the steamroom it became obvious that more than fifteen minutes would be needed before it got to even a warm temperature. So by half past the hour I decided to hell with it and instead took a nice long shower - which was nearly as good, steam wise, as the steamroom but wonderfully hot.

At 6:50 the alarm I'd set on my Palm went off and I dried off and wrapped up in the velcro-equipped waist towel. The receptionist must have heard it too and entered, after knocking, to show me to the massage room next door. I gathered all my belongings and, in two trips, shuffled them to that room and laid them out again. A bit of a bother that but oh well.

The massage room was large and had its own glass walled shower as well. It also had its own chair and coat rack - but no actual clothing rack like the steamroom had had. You know, the kind with special hangers for pants and such. I´d found that to be a nice touch. The massage table was, I think, larger than most I'd seen before. I'm not big on Pay2Play massage places though so maybe it was normal size for Buenos Aires.

In short order the receptionist inquired as to whether I was ready for the girls. After about five minutes the first of three showed herself. After ten I'd seen all three - not the five I'd expected. None really did it for me so I asked if that was all. I was told yes and so asked whether there were girls free on other floors. I was told yes and waited for them to arrive. For her to assume a 50P tip without blinking or breaking into a big grin just how upscale was this place? Did only insanely rich locals come here? In short order I corrected the error and didn't detect any change in her professionally sweet treatment of me.

So back to the massage:

As I turned over I remarked to her that it was my first time here. Third time in Buenos Aires but first time in Croix. I added to that that I'd been to various departamentos and bars. So I put her on notice that I was not a fresh-off-the-plane first time tourist and waited for her prices - which have been cited above. At this point she´d already been jacking me and, clearly, I was enjoying that. She had not taken off her robe though. Independent providers usually are nicer since they live strictly off your business and word of mouth, whereas in big spas or organizations they probably don't make as much or could be resentful about the management. It really is a very nice place. It's clean, has a nice atmosphere and most of the girls are quite pretty. I suggest that if you go, though, you avoid at all costs the times when the after-work crowd would tend to gather because the pickings will be rather slim. Colmenga is more of a "traditional" spa and "extras" may or may not be on the menu.
